Bian Yongyu's Research On The Collection Of "Shigutang Calligraphy And Painting Collection Examination"

Bian Yongyu became an important private connoisseur by virtue of his profound foundation in painting and calligraphy,the financial support of his family and the great convenience offered by his official position as a shade student,and compiled a book entitled Shigutang Calligraphy and Painting Collection based on what he had seen and heard and on the relevant works of his predecessors.The book is notable for its departure from the previous style of painting and calligraphy,and is highly representative of the features of its preparation.In addition,Bian Yongyu was guilty of forgery during the identification process,and some works were not examined,all of which are documented in Anqi’s Mo Yuan Hui Guan,some of which no longer exist due to long term,making it difficult to lift the veil of forgery and restore the historical truth.The works in Bian Yongyu’s collection are of some research value,both in terms of their interest in circulation and the existence of forgery.This article focuses on three aspects of Bian Yongyu’s identity as a connoisseur of calligraphy and painting,the features of the Shigutang Calligraphy and Painting Collection,and its academic values and shortcomings.
