Abstract/Summary:
In the traditional reading classes,the key point is to explain language points and ignores to develop students’ ability of analyzing discourse.Thus,students have little interest in reading,and the lack of knowledge of discourse,causing students’ lack of confidence when doing reading.The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017)requires students to deepen the understanding of discourse,attach importance to the analysis of discourse,and improve their ability of reading ability.Therefore,this thesis aims at applying discourse analysis to senior high school English reading teaching,analyzing its influences on students reading ability,their confidence and interest in reading.On the basis of reviewing the literature related to discourse analysis,that is,the teaching reading models,cohesion and coherence,genre analysis and discourse patterns of discourse analysis,this paper uses the empirical research method to study the effects on senior high school students’ reading ability.There are mainly two problems in the research to be solved:1)How discourse analysis improve senior high school students’ reading ability?2)How discourse analysis improve senior high school students’ confidence and interest in reading?82 students in NO.1 Senior High School of Guan Shan Hu District were selected to participate in the experiment.And the research was carried out by using traditional teaching reading method and the discourse analysis method,comparing the results by means of tests and interviews.The research shows that:1)Students can gain a better understanding of the whole discourse,and receive better scores in reading comprehension after learning discourse analysis.2)Students have more confidence when doing reading comprehension and are more interested in reading for they have grasped the ways to do reading comprehension.After the empirical research,it proves that it is necessary to apply discourse analysis to senior high school reading teaching,which not only can change students’ negative attitude to reading and reading comprehension,increase their confidence and interest in reading,but also can improve their reading ability.
