The exploration of ruins in German painting after 19 th century,which inspires me on the artwork,focusing on the review and research of the tragedy of ruins in German painting.Based on the German war history and the theme of ruins in German painting,this paper studies the illustration of ruins in different stages of German painting under during wars.The purpose is to understand and analyze the reason,appearance,context of ruins as emotional symbols,and the enlightenment for later generations and me.Therefore,this paper studies German history and art history,and collects a large number of paintings on the theme of ruins,representing the life of artists and related content.Then summarizes,selects and writes the paper.After the research,it's found that the image of ruins in Germany is the manifestation of the artist's mental trauma caused by the war in various periods,which delivers emotions of the artists during wars.The times,the types of war and the relationship between artists and wars determine the appearance of the image of ruins.From loneliness and solemnity,to fear and pain,and then to the end and rebirth,showing the existence of different stages.Nowadays,the definition of war has been extended,and the image of ruins has presented as the exposure and reflection of social problems.
