Sumo is an ancient and competitive sport that first originated in the period of Spring and Autumn of China,so it has the nature of martial arts.It was introduced to Japan in the Tang Dynasty and became a popular sport.Nowadays,sumo become the national sport of Japan and is very popular among Japanese people.This translation report is based on the text of the book「大相扑知ったら面白すぎる70の话」written by Yoko Shimokado(translated as 70 super interesting things you don’t know about Sumo).The content of the translation report is based on the first and second chapters of the original text.The book was published by Mikasa Shobo in August 2017.Currently,there is no Chinese version in China.This book mainly introduces the real and interesting stories of sumo world that can’t be heard on public radio.The stories were collected and compiled by the author Yoko Shimokado while he worked as the live broadcast host of the mini-FM radio"どすこいFM",which is unique broadcast in the Ryogoku Kokugikan.This translation report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the preface,which mainly introduces the translation task and the purpose and significance of the translation task.The second chapter describes the translation process,including three parts: pre-translation,in-translation process and post-translation proofreading.The third chapter is the selection of translation theory,which mainly introduces Peter Newmark,his translation theory,and the selection of translation theory.The fourth chapter is the core part of the whole translation report,which mainly focuses on the analysis of specific practice cases in three aspects: vocabulary,title and sentence.The fifth chapter is the concluding part of the translation report,which summarizes the problems and shortcomings in this translation activity and elaborates the experience of this translation practice.In this translation practice activity,Peter Newmark’s theory of communicative translation is taken as the basis.The translation practice is guided by Peter Newmark’s theory of communicative translation,and make comprehensive use of direct translation and free translation methods as well as various translation techniques such as slitting,reorganization,conversion and integration to complete the translation practice creation.In the practice report,the author introduces in detailed the difficulties and problems in the translation process,and analyzes them one by one through the practice cases. |
