A Uighur Translation Study Of Chinese Conceptual Metaphors

As a kind of cognitive activity,metaphor is an important part of language.From the perspective of cognitive linguistics,based on the theory of conceptual metaphor from Lakoff and Johnson,and taking the Uyghur version of "Selected Works of Mao Zedong"(Volumes ? and ?)as the corpus,this paper carries out a comparative analysis on conceptual metaphor and studies the text from the perspective of metaphor translation.This paper is mainly divided into four chapters to introduce the Uyghur translation study on Chinese conceptual metaphor.Chapter 1 is the introduction.It illustrates the purpose and significance of the study,puts forward the studied problems and methods adopted in the study,briefly reviews the related studies,and introduces the source of the corpus.Chapter 2 is the contrastive analysis of conceptual metaphor between Chinese and Uygur.It divides the 10125 conceptual metaphors in "Selected Works of Mao Zedong"(Volumes ? and ?)into three categories-structural metaphor,ontological metaphor and orientational metaphor with the classification method of conceptual metaphor,and makes a comparative analysis on their subcategories as well.Chapter 3 is the study on Uyghur translation of conceptual metaphor.It analyzes the translation methods and strategies from the perspective of metaphor translation,summarizes the four basic characteristics of the "Selected Works of Mao Zedong"(Volumes I and II),and concludes the four major factors affecting the metaphor translation strategies.Chapter 4 is the conclusion.It summarizes the main content of the paper and the study results obtained,points out the shortcomings of the study and looks forward the future of relevant studies.
