The Opinions on Deepening the Reform of the Education System and Mechanism promulgated by the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 2017 identify thinking skills as one of the key abilities that students need to develop.In addition to this,General High School English Curriculum Standard(2017 edition)also identifies critical thinking skills as one of the key elements of Core Literacy for high school students.In recent years,there's an upsurge in the colleges and universities across the country in the cultivation of critical thinking ability,but the cultivation of students' critical thinking ability in high school English teaching seems to be unsatisfactory.The main reason is that the traditional teaching methods lead to the separation of “learning” and “using”,and teachers focus on the explanation of language knowledge,which leads to the students' lack of critical thinking ability to analyze and solve problems.“Production-Oriented Approach” is a theoretical system of foreign language teaching with Chinese characteristics proposed by our country's Professor Wen Qiufang.It integrates the form and meaning of language,which can not only enhance students' basic language knowledge,but also improve students' speculative and pragmatic ability.Based on the above,this study uses Production-Oriented Approach as the theoretical basis,the teaching experiment method,the test method and the questionnaire method to teach English writing to two parallel classes of senior students in a high school in Jining City for a period of eight weeks.This paper tries to explore the following three research questions:(1)How does Production-Oriented Approach English teaching improve the critical thinking skills of high school students?(2)What is the relationship between high school students 'critical thinking skills and their English writing language expression ability?(3)What is the effect of English teaching of Production-Oriented Approach on the cultivation of high school students' writing language expression ability?The results of the study revealed that(1)Compared with the traditional PWP teaching method,Production-oriented Approach teaching can improve students' critical thinking skills.After Production-oriented Approach teaching,students' speculative personality tendency has been significantly improved in the five dimensions of analysis,self-confidence,truth-seeking,cognitive maturity and openness.Moreover,their compositions have also improved significantly in examination,conception and expression compared with those before the experiment,which is more evident in the two dimensions of thoroughness of reasoning and coherence of chapters.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between critical thinking skills and writing language expression ability of high school students.(3)Compared with the traditional PWP teaching method,Production-oriented Approach teaching can improve students' writing language expression ability.Production-Oriented Approach can significantly improve the fluency and accuracy of students' language expression ability.Based on the above results,the research suggests:(1)Teachers should pay attention to students' cognitive development level in teaching.In the teaching process,teachers should be good at reasonably decomposing the output tasks according to the students' cognitive situation,so as to promote the students to master knowledge step by step.(2)Teachers should create scenes with real communication for students.The real communication scene close to students' life can make students clear about their communication purpose and identity,so that they can comprehensively analyze information and reason authentication.(3)Teachers should play a professional role,fully understand the Production-oriented Approach and be able to play an effective intermediary role in classroom teaching.(4)Teachers should be good at using various evaluation methods.Of course,due to the short research cycle,this study still has some deficiencies.However,on the whole,this study has basically achieved the expected results and achieved more satisfactory results,which are enlightening and useful for improving students' thinking skills as well as their ability to express themselves in writing language.
