In order to solve the problem of “separation learning from using language” in foreign language teaching in China,Wen Qiufang puts forward the production-oriented approach.This approach follows the mode of “output---input---output”,which emphasizes both the process of producing and the result of product.Subsequently,many scholars and teachers have applied the production-oriented approach to foreign language teaching.The results of these researches have confirmed the effectiveness of production-oriented approach in the English writing teaching.Therefore,this study applies the production-oriented approach to English writing teaching in senior high school.It aims to explore the effect of production-oriented approach on writing ability of students in senior high school from the perspectives of complexity,accuracy,and fluency.This research was conducted in two parallel classes of Grade Two of a Senior High School in Hebei Province.The writing class of the experimental class applied the production-oriented approach while the control class adopted the process writing teaching method.This research adopts both qualitative and quantitative research method,and the research instruments are writing test and interview.Before and after the experiment,the author conducted a writing test on the experimental subjects,and calculated the accuracy,fluency and complexity of the writing samples by using L2 Syntactic Complexity Analyzer software.At last,the author analyzed the experimental data with SPSS 23.0.In order to improve the comprehensiveness of the research results,the author respectively selected ten students from the experimental class and the control class for interview after the experiment.The results of this research indicate that the writing complexity and accuracy of students in experimental class have been improved significantly.The number of clauses in their compositions increased significantly,and the number of error-free T-units was higher than that in control class.However,the writing fluency of the experimental class has not been significantly improved.The improvement of writing fluency takes a long time,and the writing habits among students also affect fluency.It is expected that this research contributes to researchers and teachers to understand the implication of production-oriented approach in English writing.It also gives practical suggestions and inspirations to English teachers and expects them to adopt this approach to improve the efficiency of English writing teaching.Due to the limited time and the number of experimental subjects,there exists some limitations in this research.In order to more comprehensively explore the impact of production-oriented approach on the English writing ability of high school students,future research can try to expand the number of research subjects and prolong the experimental time. |
