Documentary is an effective way for people to learn and experience the foreign culture, and it has a large audience.Simultaneous interpretation of explanatory words of English documentaries can help audiences to obtain information in a timely way. This is a practice report on the English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation of the documentary The Queen's Palaces. This report elaborates on the problems encountered by the writer in the interpretation process and the interpreting strategies to deal with these problems. These problems mainly include information omission and mistranslation of key information words, redundancy and incoherent cohesion in the target language. In order to solve the problem of information omission and mistranslation of key information words, the writer puts forward the method of understanding with picture hints and speculating word meaning, taking advantages of the strong relevance content and audio-visual counterpoint form of documentaries to avoid omission and mistranslation of information words. To reduce the redundancy of the target language, the writer presents the methods of inductive interpretation, ellipsis and word formation,to condense the message, optimize the structure and shorten the length of the target sentence. To address incoherent coherence in the target language, the writer puts forward a method of adding reference and conjunctions to improve the coherence of the target language of the attributive clause and to manifest the logical relationship between sentences. This report can provide relevant reference for the learners and interpreters of documentary interpretation, and then improve the documentary interpretation quality.
