This report is extracted from the first two chapters of Paper Art.As a living fossil that records Chinese folk life for thousands of years, paper art originates from the primitive sorcery and sacrificial culture and is closely connected with the Chinese folk funeral culture. In this book, the author makes people realize what this handicraft looks like and introduces the development of Chinese traditional paper art. Therefore, the translation of Paper Art not only helps readers understand the paper art again but can promote the folk culture. The source text has many culture-loaded words, including procedures in funeral customs, paper art products,Taoist and Buddhist characters and teachings.Based on Message of Translation, the translator discusses the translation of culture-loaded words through multiple cases. From two aspects of information redundancy, the translator tries to adjust the redundant information of culture-loaded words through targeted translation methods. The translator adopts translation methods such as transliteration and annotation, literal translation and annotation, amplification, and paraphrasing to add redundant information to help English readers understand the source text. And the translator uses some methods such as omission, combination, and free translation to delete redundant information, thus making the translation conform to English writing and reading habits. In this report, the translator focuses on adjusting the redundant information of culture-loaded words in Paper Art.Combined with two aspects of information redundancy, the translator properly uses various translation methods to adjust the information in the source text. The report seeks to form the translation of folk culture with Chinese characteristics, and provide translation cases for the application of Message of Translation in paper art and folk culture,to tell Chinese folk stories and promote Chinese folk culture.
