A Comparative Analysis Of Causal Complex Sentences In Chinese-English News

This paper studies the causal complex sentences in Chinese and English news from the perspective of text linguistics.This paper refers to the research methods of stylistics,systemic functional linguistics and text linguistics.This paper is divided into four parts.In the first part,after discussing the characteristics of the news style and the causal complex sentence,this paper discusses the rationality of analyzing them together.In the following three chapters,this paper makes a corpus-based analysis of causal complex sentences in Chinese and English news from the perspective of words(conjunctions),clauses and texts.In the process of research,this paper finds that there are many differences between Chinese and English causal complex sentences in news: First of all,there are few conjunctions in causal complex sentences of Chinese news,but on the contrary,there are more conjunctions in English news.Secondly,in Chinese news,the dominant order of causal complex sentence is cause clause in front and effect clause behind,while in English news,the dominant order is effect clause in front and cause clause behind.Thirdly,the relationship between cause clause and result clause in Chinese news is primary and secondary,while in English it is principal and subordinate.Fourthly,the focus of causal complex sentences in Chinese news is more on the causal clause,while in English news is more on the result clause.Finally,the clause order of the causal complex sentence in English news mainly follows the grammatical rules,while in Chinese news is from background to foreground,we can also call it BFP principle.Of course,there are also many similarities between the causal complex sentences in the news of the two languages.First,the conjunctions of the causal complex sentences are used to appear alone and used to link the causal clauses more often.Secondly,the causal complex sentences express more objective existence and regular cause-and-effect relationship,and try to avoid the subjective supposition.Finally,the causal complex sentences in both languages are grammatically correct and structurally complete and their wording are popular and simple.For these differences and similarities,this paper can explain from the angle of grammar or style,and finally we can draw the conclusion.The morphological change of Chinese is less and parataxis is the main,so it is greatly affected by the style.But the morphological change of English is strict,so it is less affected by the style.So,style is a very important factor,but the degree of the influence is different in different language.
