Under the influence of literary inquisition in the Early Qing Dynasty,a lot of calligraphers turned their focus to Stele Study.The excavation of countless stone further contributed to the rise of Stele Study.As one of the early representatives among “Yangzhou Baguai”,Li Shan was the only painter-calligrapher who served in the palace.With his outstanding artistic talent,he brought the techniques of Stele School into the traditional calligraphy,developing a distinctive powerful and strong spirit in his writing,which called “Jin Shi Qi”.Starting with the historical background of Li Shan,the thesis will rebuild his historical role in Yangzhou Art,as well as go deep into the differences and similarities between how Zheng Banqiao,Jin Nong and him following Shitao' s skills.The paper is trying to clarify the causes of Li Shan' s particular spirit in his writing,from the several aspects including his artistic talent,creative personality and role model.In addition,the aesthetic qualities of “Jin Shi Qi” will be illustrated in the paper.In addition,the aesthetic qualities will be explained as the aesthetic interest of the combination of stone tablet and copybook,the diverse and mixed font patterns,the liberated composing state.Furthermore,the paper will point out the evolution of Li Shan's “Jin Shi Qi”,along with its benefits on current calligraphy.
