The Overlap Of Memory And Representation

The overlapping of memory and representation is a reflection on artistic expression.Starting from personal life,this paper raises the question of parents’ memorial photos,which leads to the discussion of memory and representation.By analyzing the current situation of theme selection and practical exploration of memory and representation in the field of painting,this paper has formed the methodology of personal understanding of subject matter and ink painting language practice,and completed the translation of ink painting for parents’ memorial photos.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter discusses the memory and representation in reality.First of all,the topic comes from the "doubt" of parents’ memorial photos,which forms the artistic thinking of overlapping memory and representation.Then I analyzed the characteristics of memory and appearance respectively,and found that memory is often affected by subjective choices,while appearance has the possibility of splitting reality.I tried to overlap them to experience this delicate and complex world.The second chapter discusses the topic selection based on the overlapping of memory and representation.Through three levels in this chapter discusses the artists on memory and thinking about the theme of the image,the are unique individual memory and image overlap,hidden memories and representation and group memory and representation of overlap,and with li,Peter doig and Wei Qingji three artists works as an example to carry on the detailed analysis.Finally,combined with the first three points,elaborated my understanding of the theme of parents’ memorial photos.The third chapter discusses the memory and representation in painting.This paper summarizes the current artists’ exploration of the overlapping language methods of memory and representation,and takes Peter Doig and MAO Donghua as examples to analyze in detail how artists use representations and cover memory layers.Chapter four discusses the overlapping of memory and representation--my translation of my parents’ memorial photos.This chapter explains in detail how to use the image of the memorial photo and the ink painting language practice method covering the memory layer above the image.Moreover,through further thinking,I improved my ink painting creation methodology and completed the translation of the parents’ memorial photo.
