Jin Guowei's Rock Climbing Documentary Narrative Research

Sports documentary is one of the types of documentary.Although it develops rapidly in China,there are still some problems.In recent years,extreme sports began to be popularized in China.As a sub category of sports documentary,extreme sports documentary gradually entered the audience's field of vision.At the same time,it introduced some excellent documentary works of extreme sports from abroad,such as "Free solo" directed by Jimmy Chin,which is an opportunity for the development of Chinese sports documentary.With the attitude of learning and using for reference,this paper will analyze and study Jimmy Chin's long works which named Meru and Free solo.From the perspective of film and television narratology,through the methods of content research,literature and case study,this paper analyzes Jimmy Chin's works from three dimensions of narrative subject,narrative time and space,and narrative strategy,and makes in-depth exploration and interpretation of its narrative mode and characteristics,so as to try to provide reference for the creators of Chinese sports documentary.Jimmy Chin's documentary is very influential in the field of extreme sports documentary,and its topics are rare and precious.On the basis of documentary research,this paper mainly studies Jimmy Chin's works from the perspective of film narration.It is found that documentary with method of "storytelling" has become a development trend.Documentary creators should abide by "reality" but more than "reality".Excellent topics and appropriate narrative skills are the key points of documentary.Nowadays,documentary is not popular as "tool man".The way of recording is the way of "storytelling".The creators need to dig into the ideological connotation of the topic and make documentary by using the narrative way of the feature film according to their needs.The taste of the audience is becoming more and more critical.While attracting the audience,the sports documentary should also be down-to-earth in creation and close the distance with the audience in the narrative way.
