"Gaze" is an important concept in modern Western theories, and its development is closely related to Visioncentrism that is originated from ancient Greece.Theorists have injected the subject, object, power and other dimensions into the "gazing" theory to expand its theoretical system. But Jean-Luc Nancy broke through the subject-object dichotomy under the original "gaze" theory by using deconstructivism thoughts, breaking the discipline and restriction of the other on the subject under "gaze".Nancy proposed that the subject and the other are equal and interoperable, and that the subject does not occupy the absolute dominant position. The other is only the other that is different from the subject. Therefore, there is no restraint on the subject by the "gaze" of the other.Nancy's "regard" starts from the subject and returns to the subject.Through "regard",the subject outreaches and retreats into itself, and therefore finishes its reset. The subject and the other distinguish each other on an unspeakable boundary which is not fixed. It changes with the reset of the subject,so all subjects are in common. The reset of the subject means its "openness",the meaning of the subject is constantly updated as well. The subject briefly achieves "integrity" and gains meaning in the "regard" with the outside world. The meaning of the world constituted by the subject therefore also becomes complete. This article focus on Nancy's "regard" theory.First,it will explain the meaning of " regard ",and use "portrait" as an example to explain the subject's autonomy and "openness".Second,it will explore how the subject and other can be independent while also common during the process of " regard ".Third,it establishes a connection between " regard " and meaning and discovers how “regard” helps to continuously renew meaning. Finally, with Nancy's "regard",the article aims to point out a new direction for the theory of simulacra. The full text,on the one hand, thoroughly explores the theory of " regard " and "the other" vertically. It draws lessons from the theoretical system established by the predecessors so as to better explain Nancy's theory and highlight its creativity. On the other hand, through a horizontal comparison between “regard” and other related and contemporary theories, the article shows the influence of other theories on Nancy as well as its originality. While discussing Nancy's " regard " theory, this article also expands and perfects the original "gaze" theory system, and attempts to provide new ideas and directions for the development of humans and the real society.
