After the signing of CEPA in 2003,a large number of Hong Kong film makers went north of China to develop their work.Hong Kong film makers not only brought their unique film creation mode to the mainland,but also brought the production methods of genre films.After going north,Hong Kong directors have been trying to find a balance between Hong Kong's Nativity and mainland's mainstream consciousness.Peter Chan,as a director of box office and word-of-mouth in the northern directors,has been concerned by all parties.This paper starts from the background setting of Peter Chan's movie protagonist,trying to find the uniqueness of the identity setting of Peter Chan's movie protagonist.As a former British colony,Hong Kong has received the education of "with citizens or without citizens" for a long time,people in Hong Kong has a strong sense of confusion and anxiety in the face of the 1997 return.These problems are also reflected in Peter Chan's works.From his early Hong Kong films to his later productions after going north,the protagonists in Peter Chan's films have lost identity.Different from the general local directors in Hong Kong,Peter Chan's growing background is full of wandering.Peter Chan was born in Hong Kong,moved to Thailand with his parents at the age of 8,and went to Los Angeles University to study film at the age of18.Peter Chan spent his whole youth in the wandering state.Peter Chan also mentioned in an interview that it was precisely because of his wandering experience that influenced the later role buildin,make the character's life full of wandering.Wandering means uncertainty,and it is easy to produce confusion of self-identity.The main body of this paper is divided into four parts.The first part to the third part mainly analyzes the setting of Peter Chan's role background and explains "why".The first part analyzes the edge of Peter Chan's film protagonist's original background and discusses the loss and reconstruction of Hong Kong's cultural identity.The second part analyzes the Vagrancy in the living background of the protagonist and discusses the problem of self-identity and Peter Chan's wandering experience.The third part analyzes the diversity of social background,and discusses the obstacles of social identity and the creative environment of Peter Chan.The fourth part analyzes what strategies Peter Chan has used to make up for the identity of the protagonist in the movie.It is mainly divided into three parts: nostalgic music and cultural memory,Pan Asian film concept,and blur the background of the protagonist after going north.Peter Chan's films mentioned in this article include those directed and supervised by Peter Chan.This paper begins with the study of Peter Chan's early Hong Kong film creation,analyzes the artistic characteristics of Peter Chan's films,and tries to provide a theoretical reference for the role building in future co productions.
