The four major formal features of parallel prose in the Six Dynasties were composed of embellishment,antithesis,allusion and rhythm,however the study on the embellishment of parallel prose is insufficient in extensive and depth compared to other three features.On the basis of the study of the literary thoughts in Six Dynasties,the way of embellishment of parallel prose and cultural implication,and the study of linguistic characteristics of parallel prose in the Six Dynasties,this paper tries to make a more comprehensive study about embellishment of parallel prose in the Six Dynasties and enrich the systematic study of the formal features of parallel prose.The full text is divided into six parts.The introduction gives concrete description of the existing research,the origin and significance of the topic and the definition of "Six Dynasties "," parallel prose" and "embellishment " in the study.And it mainly selects Wen Xuan,Pian Ti Wen Chao and Liu Chao Wen Jie as the basic text of the study.The first chapter summarizes the basic types of embellishment of parallel prose in the Six Dynasties.According to the text level of embellishment,it can be divided into embellishment of word type,embellishment of sentence type and embellishment of paragraph type.According to the object type of embellishment,it can be mainly divided into environmental embellishment,morphological embellishment,sensory embellishment and so on.At the same time,there are at least four different styles in terms of the linguistic features of embellishment.The second chapter analyses and summarizes the outstanding features of embellishment of parallel prose in different periods of the Six Dynasties from the vertical literature history:the parallel prose gradually matured and embellishment of parallel prose had just entered the gorgeous stage during the Jin Dynasty,but the style of application was not popular and the skill was relatively simple;A great stride was made to realize the rhetorical devices and began to pay attention to the carving of words and phrases during the period of Liu Song Dynasty;As the flourishing period of parallel prose in Six Dynasties,Qi Dynasty and Liang Dynasty are a closer step on the basis of embellishment of Liu Song’s parallel prose.It highlighted in more depiction,carving and the pursuit of color;To the Chen Dynasty,the writers inherited the style of embellishment of Qi Dynasty and Liang Dynasty’s parallel prose.The third chapter starts from the horizontal of stylistics,takes the parallel prose of Qi Dynasty and Liang Dynasty as the cross section and selects fu,edicts,memorial to the throne,preface,inscription and funeral oration.There are seven kinds of styles to compare and summarize the commonness of existence and their outstanding features of embellishment of parallel prose in this period.It is concluded that although the style of this period is generally influenced by parallel trend,they take on the different degree and various ways of the embellishment.The four chapter rises to the theoretical level of literature and analyzes the text implication of embellishment of parallel prose in the Six Dynasties:it is believed that the formation of embellishment of parallel prose is catalyzed by the tendency of pursuing rhetoric in Chinese literature since ancient times and aesthetic interest of literati of the Six Dynasties,and the internal system of parallel prose centered on antithesis and furtherance of philology provides feasibility for further embellishment;It plays an important role in the functions of lyricism,description,narration and argumentation and it produces a strong artistic appeal;In terms of the relationship between sentiment and acquisition,it is necessary to see the interdependent relationship between the horizontal extension of parallel prose text structure and the vertical hidden depth of thought and emotion structure.The conclusion gives a conclusion on the whole thesis.It points out that the pure text consciousness and the pursuit of pure beautiful language by the writers of the parallel prose in the Six Dynasties and it can be seen through the innovation and change of the language.The literary and artistic expression of the parallel prose has eternal vitality.
