English reading anxiety refers to the nervous and uneasy emotional reactions that individuals accompany when reading in English. These negative emotions may be reduced or even eliminated as the learning task changes, but if the learner's failure experience continues to increase and continue to trigger Anxiety, foreign language reading anxiety will not only reduce or eliminate, but will evolve from transient, situational state anxiety to persistent trait anxiety.A large number of studies at home and abroad show that foreign language reading anxiety significantly predicts foreign language performance, but there are also some theories that reading anxiety and reading performance are not a simple linear relationship.According to the theory of attention control, stress and anxiety may be consumed by readers' working memory. The capacity of resources to suppress the process of reading comprehension.Working memory capacity refers to the amount of information that is saved by individuals while processing information. It can reflect the storage capacity of processing memory, processing efficiency, and ability to control attention. Therefore,we believe that working memory capacity plays a regulating role in the image of anxiety on attentional control, and this effect on attentional control will further affect our performance. In addition, heart rate variability has also been widely used in research related to anxiety. This study explores the regulation of working memory capacity between English reading anxiety and English performance from two perspectives:physiological measurement and self-reporting effect.Study one explores the role of working memory capacity in regulating the relationship between English reading anxiety and English achievement from a behavioral perspective through the Trait Anxiety Scale,English Reading Anxiety Scale, and Working Memory Reading Span Task. The results found that:(1)there was a significant negative correlation between English reading anxiety and English performance;(2)working memory capacity played a moderating role in the impact of English reading anxiety on English performance.Under low working memory capacity,English reading The higher the level of anxiety, the lower the English grade.Study Two:From the self-reported English reading anxiety of Study 1,a total of 42 subjects were selected from high and low English reading anxiety students(26 with high English reading anxiety and 16 with low English reading anxiety). Objective physiological anxiety index-heart rate variability. The results found that:the higher the level of selfreported reading anxiety, the higher the physiological anxiety in completing English reading tasks, and the English reading anxiety played a mediating role in heart rate variability and English reading performance. In exploring the relationship between heart rate variability, working memory capacity, and English reading performance,we found that physical anxiety and working memory capacity can also affect English reading performance.Through the above two studies, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)The level of English reading anxiety is significantly negatively correlated with English performance.(2)Working memory capacity plays a regulating role between English reading anxiety and English performance.(3)The interaction of heart rate variability and working memory capacity on English reading performance is significant.Among them, under high working memory capacity,English reading scores with low heart rate variability high frequency values are higher than those with high heart rate variability high frequency values.Grades, that is,certain tension can improve English reading performance.
