| Background:Reading anxiety refers to the nervous and restless emotional reaction during readings. It is not only a negative emotional reaction, but also affects the reading effect.Developmental dyslexia is a kind of neural development of learning disabilities, developmental dyslexia children suffers with not only studies and cognitive difficulties, also with more emotional distress, previous studies have found that for developmental dyslexia, the general anxiety level is higher than the typically developing control group,so,whether there is a higher level of reading anxiety in the developmental dyslexia children?Heart rate variability and cortisol, which reflect the autonomic nervous system and endocrine system, are also widely used in anxiety-related studies. This study will adopt the two physiological indexes to more objectively reflect the anxiety, through three parts,we explored whether reading anxiety in children with developmental dyslexia in Chinese is higher than the control group in self-reporting and physiological measurement--autonomic nervous system and HPA(hypothalamic pituitary adrenal gland)axis activity.Among the children with developmental dyslexia in Chinese, the relationship between reading anxiety level was reported and physiological measurement index. The relationship between reading anxiety and physiological response under reading status with reading performance.Study 1:In the first experiment, children were tested for reading anxiety questionnaire.Set realistic reading comprehension task situation, for 23 Chinese developmental dyslexia children and 32 normal children were collected the ECG data and salivary cortisol before and during the task. The results showed that:(1)the self-reported reading anxiety level of the children with developmental dyslexia was significantly higher than that of the control group;(2)there were no differences between the indicators of heart rate variability and cortisol concentrations before and during the task;(3)among male students, the Chinese character recognition of children with developmental dyslexia can negatively predict the value of HF-HRV in the task period.Study 2:Study 2 explores the relationship between physiological measures and children’s self-reported reading anxiety levels. The results show that there was a significant positive correlation between the LF-HRV change in the task with reading anxiety, and this relationship did not exist in the normal group.Study 3:Study 3 explores the relationship between physiological measures and reading anxiety with reading performance in Chinese children with developmental dyslexia.(1)the reading comprehension scores and literary performance of the children with developmental dyslexia were significantly lower than those of the normal group, and no relationship between reading anxiety, physiological measurement with reading performance was found;(2)the changes in reading quest variability high frequency values can negatively predict reading comprehension task scores. Conclusion:The following conclusions can be drawn from the above two experimental studies:(1)compared with normal children, children with Chinese developmental dyslexia experience higher levels of reading anxiety subjectively, there was no difference in the activity of autonomic nervous system and HPA axis between Chinese children with developmental dyslexia and typical developing children, and the self-report of reading anxiety was inconsistent with the physiological measurement results.(2)among the boys, the Chinese character recognition of children with developmental dyslexia can negatively predict the change of parasympathetic tone during the reading task;(3)the sympathetic tone of children with Chinese developmental dyslexia could positively predict reading anxiety. The higher reading anxiety level, the higher sympathetic excitability. |
