Since the Tang Dynasty, flower and bird painting has developed rapidly.Through continuous inheritance and development, flower and bird painting has been completely separated from landscape and figure painting and developed rapidly.Through the continuous reform of painters in the past dynasties, the painting techniques of flower and bird painting are also increasing.Among them,Mogu painting has become a unique painting technique with fine dyeing and rough freehand brushwork, which is different from the traditional form, and has been widely used in flower and bird painting.Flower and bird painting reached an unprecedented peak in the Northern Song Dynasty, and gradually fell silent in the Yuan Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, flower and bird painting rose to the peak again after a hundred years, and made remarkable achievements.Among the court flower and bird painters in the early Ming Dynasty,Bian Jingzhao,Sun long,Lin Liang and Lu Ji made the most outstanding achievements, and their artistic styles were quite different.Bian Jingzhao inherited and carried forward the magnificent momentum of traditional meticulous painting in Tang and Song dynasties.Sun long’s artistic style originated from Xu chongsi’s boneless technique, and then improved to form his own unique natural and flexible style, which promoted the court painting There is no bone painting style;Lin Liang’s reform and innovation has created a rough ink freehand painting of flowers and birds;Lu Ji has absorbed the advantages of Bian Jingzhao and Lin Liang, continued to carry forward the traditional fine brushwork form of Tang and Song Dynasties, and constantly innovated the old, creating a more rich painting atmosphere. It is precisely because of the great enthusiasm of emperor Taizu and Xuanzong of Ming Dynasty for calligraphy and painting that the Palace Flower and bird painting flourished and reached its climax from the early to the middle of Ming Dynasty.Sun long mainly painted flowers and birds in the palace painting academy of Ming Dynasty, with a unique style, which won the favor of Emperor Xuanzong of Ming Dynasty.Sun long’s unique personal artistic style played a certain role in enlightening and guiding painters of the same period and later generations. The style of Mogu painting is unique. It combines fine painting with ink freehand brushwork, that is to say,the pursuit of literati painting, the aesthetic style of expressing feelings, and the pursuit of wealth by the royal family. Therefore, this style was very popular at that time, which promoted the formation of a new style of Mogu in Palace Flower and bird painting. It can be seen from sun long’s works that he tried the method of "collision with water and color",the method of "hook flowers and leaves",and the bold attempt of "banner composition" in composition. He developed the painting method of boneless painting, paid attention to the beauty of form, and promoted boneless flower and bird painting to mature gradually. And sun long’s unique style of boneless painting had a subtle influence on the court painters and literati painters of the same period and later generations, and made a great contribution to the development of Ming Dynasty flower and bird painting in the history of painting. However,at present, the research and cognition of Sun long’s painting are relatively vague.Based on the previous research results, this paper analyzes the causes and consequences of Sun long’s artistic style formation, unique painting techniques, and the impact on future generations. To clarify the prosperity and evolution of Mogu painting, the background of the times, the cultural environment and the position of Sun long’s Mogu style in the history of painting are the key issues to be solved in this paper.
