Objective: To explore Prof.Yu Shangzhen's(hereinafter referred to as Dr.Yu)thought process when prescribing Wumei Pills,and at summarizing the experience and patterns acquired from administering Wumei Pills.These were accomplished in this study by collecting and organizing relevant clinical data generated when Dr.Yu clinically prescribed Wumei Pills and its modified prescriptions.Given Dr.Yu's reputation as a famous TCM practitioner based in Guangdong Province,this study is expected to provide objective data-based evidence to ensure the rational clinical administration of Wumei Pills in the future.Methods:The objects of study were outpatients who consulted the TCM Outpatient Department presided by the then Chief Physician Yu in Wuyi TCM Hospital Affiliated to Jinan University from September 2018 to December 2020.Having been screened according to the inclusion criteria,a total of 108 cases were eventually enrolled.On the one hand,the basic information of patients(name,age,gender),disease diagnosis(TCM diagnosis,western medicine diagnosis)and drug prescriptions were recorded into digital Microsoft Excel forms.On the other hand,the main symptoms,tongue and pulse signs of the patients were categorized and then recorded in the form.Eventually,the original database was established for subsequent analysis.Frequency analysis,factor analysis and other methods were conducted with SPSS for statistical analysis.Results:(1)According to the statistical analysis,there was no significant difference in gender across Dr.Yu's history of clinically prescribing Wumei Pills,which implies that Wumei Pills are compatible regardless of gender.Besides,the average age was 53.74±13.358.(2)In terms of symptoms,signs and diseases,Wumei Pills have been prescribed for insomnia,diarrhea,irritability,dry mouth and bitter taste,poor appetite,fatigue,dreaminess,dizziness,epigastric discomfort,body-cold,nocturia(?2 times),reddened tongue,white tongue coating,stringy pulse,stringy and weak pulse.Generally,Wumei Pills were clinically administered for treating heart diseases and hepatobiliary diseases.Looking from the context of diseases defined in Western medicine,nervous system diseases,among which sleep disorder was the major type,followed by headache and cerebrovascular diseases.The most common flavoring medicinal ingredients were tonic medicines(prescribed247 times in total),followed by drugs that relieve cough,resolve phlegm and sooth asthma,as well as heat-clearing drugs,sedative drugs and drugs for dispelling internal cold.According to the factor analysis of modified drugs,the commonly used modified drugs were: 1.Radix Ophiopogonis and Concha Ostreae;2.Cortex Cinnamomi,Roasted Finger,and Poria cocos.Conclusion: Wumei Pills prescribed by Dr.Yu can be administered to both males and females aged between 45-65.The major symptoms and signs determining whether Wumei Pills should be prescribed are insomnia,diarrhea,irritability,dry mouth and bitter taste,poor appetite,fatigue,dreaminess,dizziness,epigastric discomfort,body-cold,nocturia(?2 times),reddened tongue,white tongue coating,stringy pulse,as well as stringy and weak pulse.The principal indications include insomnia,diarrhea,dizziness,etc.The commonly used variants by Dr.Yu are: 1.Radix Ophiopogonis and Concha Ostreae;2.Cortex Cinnamomi,Roasted Finger,and Poria cocos.
