Research On The Third Space Transformation Design Of University Library

As an important component of campus architecture,university library is an important place of campus life for teachers and students.Under the background of campus renewal and the construction concept of "third generation library",the development of science and technology and the change of higher education concept have brought significant changes to the function positioning of university libraries.Many scholars have explored from different perspectives,such as space reengineering,service transformation and reading promotion.Among them,the model of "third space" theory as the construction guide has been generally accepted by the library community at home and abroad.The so-called "third space" of university libraries focuses on the relationship between work and life of university groups.Under the framework of the third space theory,the university library should be a comprehensive space providing information,learning,interaction and entertainment services,and a place with multiple values of culture,interaction and learning.However,the current domestic research focuses on the service and type innovation of the third space,while the research on the renewal and transformation of the "third space" of the library building under the existing space conditions is less involved.Based on the clarification of the logical boundary of the "third space",this paper compares the literature on the "third space" in university libraries to clarify its functional organization and characteristics of the place.Based on its construction mode and actual usage,this paper summarizes the common problems and causes in the existing construction process through case studies and field research.On this basis,the third space construction is correlated with the renovation of university libraries,and the third space renovation model is attempted to be proposed.This paper takes the Western Library of Xuhui Campus of Shanghai Normal University as the practical object,takes the interior space transformation of the premises as the main content of this study,proposes the principles of the third space transformation of college libraries,and elaborates the specific transformation strategies from three levels: macro,meso and micro.It is hoped that the research of this paper will be an effective exploration for the transformation of university libraries to the "third space" on campus.
