Korver's Study Of Ecological Critical Thought

Joel Kovel is one of the scholars of American ecological socialism in the 1990 s.His ecological criticism is embodied in the book—The Enemy of Nature: The end of Capitalism or the destruction of the World.Kovel explored the ecological crisis based on Marx’s natural view.Through the criticism of capital and capitalism,he revealed that the root cause of the ecological crisis is capital.The cancer-like expansion of capital has caused to the global ecological crisis,and relying on ecological thoughts such as science and technology,green economy,and ecological philosophy cannot reverse the trend of ecological deterioration.On the basis of ecological criticism of capitalism,Kovel put forward that only the construction of ecological socialist society can realize the free union of workers,people can ecological production,and human and nature can achieve harmony and unity.Kovel’s ecological criticism not only enriches Marx’s ecological theory,provides a new perspective for the harmonious coexistence of man and nature,but also reveals the disadvantages of capitalism,emphasizing that the capitalist has been unsustainable.However,his thought also has limitations,contradictions in the ecological interpretation of Marx,lacking to completely adhere to the historical materialism and his conception is too idealized,lacks of concrete measures,has no conditions to achieve in reality,which can only be kind of Utopia.
