The present study was to find the perceptions of the teachers regarding to the effectiveness of their pre-service training. In Pakistan the prospective teachers have to go through a mandatory training before joining the school education department, known as the pre-service teacher training. This pre-service teacher training is conducted in various institutions and universities. The span of the training varies depending on the academic qualification of the trainees. When the teachers join the teaching profession, they can compare the effectiveness of their pre-service training. They needed certain skills and level of knowledge to become an effective teacher.Definitely,if they are trained up to the mark, they will perform according to the needs of the task.Their perceptions value to know the utilization of the pre-service training. The question in researcher’s mind was whether the pre-service teacher training was effective for teachers to perform as teachers.Keeping this in mind the study was undertaken.Due to the short span of time the study was delimited to forty-one(41)male and forty-eight(48)female schools in Layyah district,Punjab province of Pakistan.Total four hundred and four(404)teachers including two hundred and two(202)male and two hundred and two(202)female teachers were selected by using random stratified sampling technique. The survey method was used to conduct the study. For data collection a self-made questionnaire was developed having twenty-six(26)restricted response in accordance with the Likert-scale and two open-ended statements for in depth information. The first part of the questionnaire was developed and analysed on the basis of five-point Likert scale and the second part was analysed under the aspects of content of the training, teachers’ behaviour, learning environment, evaluation and application.Questionnaire was administered by the researcher and by the research assistants by hand.In this way the ratio of returning was 100%.To reach certain conclusion data were tabulated and analysed by using arithmetic mean, percentage and z-score.The results showed that all the twenty-six statements of the questionnaire had mean score greater than 3.00.That meant participants had positive perceptions regarding content of the training, teachers’ behaviour, learning environment, evaluation and application of the pre-service teacher training. The difference between the perceptions of the participants on gender and qualification was statistically insignificant. This means that male and female both are satisfied with their pre-service teacher training.Likewise, the perceptions of the teachers on qualification basis also have no difference. This study shows that teachers have positive perceptions about pre-service training. This is a valuable information. It means in Pakistan pre-service teacher training is up to the mark according to the perceptions of the elementary teachers.
