As one of the most watched tournaments in the world, the postponement of the epidemic and the context of the first multi-national co-hosting make this Cup even more significant, which also places higher demands on referees to make fair and just decisions on the field and guide the game rationally.Based on the Rules of the Game 2020/2021,the research and analysis of fouls, types of fouls, offside, red and yellow cards, ball penalties and VAR in the51 matches of the final stage of the 16 th European Cup 2020 was conducted using literature, video analysis, data analysis and logical analysis. It is hoped that the data and comparative analysis will give referees at all levels a better understanding of modern football foul patterns and general trends, and provide a useful reference. The conclusions are as follows:1.The referees of the World Cup encourage more physical competition to make the game more smooth,so the total number of fouls is less, and the team with more fouls per game has a relatively unsatisfactory result. Most of the fouls in the opening period are now in the middle 3 zone.2.According to the analysis of foul type, the number of direct free kicks is in the majority, among which fouls using lower limb parts account for the majority. The scale of referees’ confrontation with body parts is gradually expanded to encourage more physical confrontation. The way players commit fouls is,for the most part, sloppy and clear.3.Most offside fouls are committed by interfering with the game. The offside fouls are gradually approaching in the first and second halves, and most of them are committed in the period of 61-75 in the second half. The front 3 zone becomes the field where the offside frequency occurs.4.The number of red and yellow cards in the knockout stage is higher than that in the group stage, indicating that the handling of key balls during the transition between offense and defense is more tactical and relatively reckless. The vast majority of yellow cards are non-sporting fouls, which occur in midfield areas and result in more yellow and red cards the closer to the end of the game.5.Most of the penalty kicks in this European Cup were caused by foot fouls.Penalty kicks were judged on an average basis in the first half, and 46-60 in the second half was the most frequently awarded period.6,VAR in this cup ushered in the highlight moment, too little intervention to increase the net playing time and improve the accuracy of the referee’s decision. The accuracy of refereeing on offside and penalty intervention was a staggering 100 per cent. |
