The mental health of college students has always been the focus of national and college education. The construction of an effective mental health prediction model for college students can provide theoretical and practical support for the mental health education in colleges and universities, promote the training of high-quality talents for the country, and promote the social development. At present, there is no lack of research on personality and mental health, but most of them are simple and scattered studies, mainly discussing the influence of some personality traits on mental health. The lack of systematic and comprehensive research makes the relationship between the two unclear. In addition, the current research on college students’ mental health mostly uses SCL-90,UPI and other scales, which are not applicable to ordinary college students and have low degree of differentiation, and at the same time, they can not comprehensively measure all aspects of college students’ mental health. Therefore, this study aims to use the Chinese College Students’ Mental Health Screening.Scale compiled by Fang Xiaoyi et al to comprehensively investigate the current mental health status of college students, build a model of predicting mental health of personality traits, and systematically study the relationship between personality and mental health dimensions. At the same time, psychological capital has a moderating effect on the study of variables related to personality and mental health. In this study,a multi-group model was used to compare the moderating effect of psychological capital on the model of personality predicting mental health. With the enrollment expansion of graduate students in recent years, colleges and universities pay more and more attention to the mental health problems of graduate students. This study further compares the differences between master students and undergraduates.Research Methods:Using "Chinese College Students Mental Health Screening Scale","NEO-FFI" and "Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire(PPQ)",We collected a total of 1297 valid questionnaires from some college students in Sichuan.SPSS software was used to analyze and understand the status quo of college students’ personality, mental health and psychological capital.AMOS software was used to build a prediction model of various dimensions of personality on mental health.Multi-group comparison was used to analyze the regulating effect of psychological capital and the differences between undergraduate and graduate groups.Results:1.There are significant differences of college students’ personality traits, mental health, total level and various dimensions of psychological capital in terms of demographic variables such as ethnicity, student origin, only child or not, gender, education background, and major.2.By constructing the prediction model of various dimensions of college students’ mental health,it is found that neuroticism has a significant positive predictive effect on college students’ mental health problems and 22 dimensions, while conformance and conscientiousness have a significant negative predictive effect. The path coefficients of three dimensions affecting mental health problems are 0.72,-0.09 and-0.11,respectively.That is,the lower the score of neuroticism, the higher the score of conscientiousness and conformance, the less prominent the psychological problems, the more mentally healthy the individual.Further establishing the prediction model of undergraduate and master students,we find that there are differences between the two models.Undergraduates’ neuroticism, conformance and conscientiousness have significant predictive effects on mental health problems and 22 dimensions, while as for as postgraduates are concerned, only neuroticism has significant positive predictive effects on mental health problems and 22 dimensions.3.Through the construction of multi-group comparison model,it is found that psychological capital has a moderating effect on the model for predicting college students’ mental health. The multi-group comparison model of undergraduate and master students was further constructed, and it was found that there were differences between the two.In the master students’ model, mental capital had a moderating effect, and there was significant difference between the high and low mental capital groups in the influence path of neuroticism on mental health(CR=2.43>1.96).However,there was no significant difference between high and low groups in undergraduate model, and psychological capital had no moderating effect. |
