The Relationship Between Self-focus And College Students’ Social Anxiety

Social communication is an indispensable part of our daily life,study and work.Individuals can obtain a sense of belonging,care and love in the process of social communication.One of the common obstacles to social communication is social anxiety.Relevant studies show that social anxiety will adversely affect college students’ daily life,work achievements,interpersonal communication and mental health.College is not only a period to accumulate professional knowledge,but also an important stage to develop a good outlook on life and values.In addition,college students will soon usher in a new stage of life when they finish their studies,leave campus and participate in social work,and may face more complicated interpersonal relationships.Therefore,it is of great significance to understand the current situation of college students’ social anxiety and explore its related influencing factors to promote the development of college students’ mental health.Based on relevant researches and theories,it is found that self-focus is one of the influencing factors of social anxiety,fear of negative evaluation is closely related to social anxiety,and self-concept clarity may play a protective role in social anxiety.Therefore,the main purpose of this study is to reveal the formation mechanism of social anxiety.In this study,551 college students were surveyed using the Negative evaluation fear Scale,social anxiety Scale,self-concept clarity scale and self-concern scale,which further revealed the internal mechanism among self-concern,social anxiety,fear of negative evaluation and self-concept clarity scale.The results are as follows:(1)There were significant gender differences in self-concern,social anxiety and fear of negative evaluation;There were significant differences in self-concern among students and self-concept clarity among grades.(2)Self-concern,social anxiety and fear of negative evaluation are positively correlated.(3)Fear of negative evaluation partially mediated the relationship between self-focus and social anxiety.(4)Self-concept clarity moderated the mediating effect of fear of negative evaluation,and self-concept clarity moderated the path of the latter half of the mediation process.(5)The four variables of self-concern,social anxiety,fear of negative evaluation and self-concept clarity formed a moderated mediation model.Conclusion: Self-concern can directly affect social anxiety,and it can also affect social anxiety indirectly through fear of negative evaluation.Self-concept clarity moderates the path of the latter half of the mediation process,and self-concept clarity can buffer the effect of fear of negative evaluation on social anxiety.The four variables of self-concern,social anxiety,fear of negative evaluation and self-concept clarity formed a moderated mediation model.
