The Influence Of Self-construct On Moral Judgment Of Dong Middle School Students

Moral judgment is an important field in moral psychology and cultural psychology.Although a large number of studies have examined the differences in moral judgments between individualism and collectivism,a pair of cultural variables based on a cross-cultural perspective,few people have investigated the difference in moral judgments of another pair of cultural variables—self-construal.Under the influence of globalization and cultural diversification,bicultural individuals can express corresponding self-construal according to different cultural situations,and then influence their individual cognition,emotions and behaviors through self.Based on this,this study explores the influence of bicultural individuals’ self-construal on moral judgment,and explores the mechanism of construal level and moral elevation between self-construal and moral judgment based on the construal level theory and dual processing theory.The subjects of this study are bicultural Dong junior high school students,and this study contains two pre-studies and three formal experiments.The two pre-studies are the study of the characteristics of the moral judgment of the Dong minority junior high school students and the screening of the starting video materials for the sense of moral elevation;Experiment 1 adopts the cultural activation paradigm to investigate whether the instant change of self-construal has an impact on moral judgment;Experiment 2 examines the influence of self-construal and construal level on moral judgment;Experiment 3 examines the influence of self-construal and construal level on moral judgment after adding the factor of moral elevation.Based on the above experimental results,the main conclusions of this research are as follows:(1)Under the cultural priming paradigm,immediate changes in self-construal will affect the tendency of moral judgment.The interdependent self-construal shows strong deontological moral judgments,and the independent self-construal shows strong utilitarian moral judgments.(2)Self-construal and construal level will have an interactive influence on moral judgment.Interdependent self-construal subjects tend to deontological judgments regardless of whether they were activated at high or low construal levels;while independent self-construal subjects tend to deontological judgments at low construal levels,and tend to utilitarian judgments at high construal levels.(3)The activation of the moral elevation will weaken the individual’s utilitarian judgment tendency.However,whether it is an individual with a high construal level or an individual with a low construal level,the moral elevation will not affect their deontological judgment tendency.(4)The moral elevation plays a moderating role in the influence of self-construal and construal level on moral judgment.After activating the moral elevation,independent and interdependent self-construal individuals tend to make deontological judgments under the conditions of high and low construal levels.
