Objectives: As an important personality trait,conscientiousness plays a significant role in predicting adults’ social adaptability such as job performance,life satisfaction,interpersonal relationship and even physical health.But how to foster good conscientiousness is still being explored,there are few studies on the development of children’s conscientiousness and the correlation between children’s conscientiousness and interpersonal relationship and academic performance.The understanding of the connotation and structure of children’s conscientiousness is not clear domestic and overseas,and there is a lack of measuring tools for children’s conscientiousness.Therefore,if we want to do in-depth research on child conscientiousness,it is an important breakthrough point to compile a measuring tool suitable for children’s conscientiousness in China.The purpose of this study :(1)Establish the structure and connotation of conscientiousness in middle and late children;(2)Establishment a conscientiousness questionnaire for middle and late age children,and test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire;(3)To preliminarily explore the social adaptive value of middle and late children’s conscientiousness.Methods: This study was divided into two parts: qualitative study,questionnaire preparation and preliminary exploration of conscientious social adjustment in middle and late children.In the first part,by combing the literature and qualitative research,The basic concept and structure of children’s conscientiousness were clarified preliminarily.In the second part,questionnaires were prepared on the basis of literature reading and qualitative research.Through two questionnaires,the self-made questionnaires were analyzed by item analysis,exploratory factor analysis,confirmatory factor analysis and reliability and validity test respectively,and the interaction path among conscientiousness,peer relationship and academic performance of children in middle and late years was explored.Results :(1)On the basis of literature and qualitative research,according to parents,teachers and children’s description of conscientiousness,the middle and late children’s conscientiousness was summarized as self-control,responsibility,diligence,compliance with rules and organization.(2)On the basis of qualitative research,a primary conscientiousness questionnaire was developed for middle and late age children,a total of 36 item,after item analysis,exploratory factor analysis,finally retain 19 item as the final questionnaire,the final questionnaire do confirmatory factor analysis and test,the questionnaire has good validity,accord with standard of psychometrics.(3)In the study on the relationship between conscientiousness,peer relationship and academic achievement,conscientiousness significantly positively predicted individual peer relationship;When both conscientiousness and peer relationship predicted academic achievement,the positive predictive effect of conscientiousness on academic achievement and the positive predictive effect of peer relationship on academic achievement reached significant levels.The confidence interval of model fitting results does not include 0.Conclusion :(1)The Conscientiousness Questionnaire for Middle-aged and Late Children prepared in this study contains 19 items,including four dimensions:self-control,responsibility,organization and compliance with rules;Moreover,the questionnaire has good reliability and validity indexes and meets the psychometrics standards.It can be used as a measuring tool to measure the level of conscientiousness in middle and late children.(2)Conscientiousness is positively correlated with peer relationship and academic achievement in middle and late age children.Further mediating effect analysis results showed that peer relationship played a partial mediating role between conscientiousness and academic achievement.This study from the perspective of children’s conscientiousness of children conscientiousness concept of structure,measurement and social value are discussed in this paper,which not only helps us to understand the connotation of conscientiousness.structure children,prepare the children’s commitment questionnaire,also helps to enrich the content of children’s personality development and lay a foundation for further study on the children’s conscientiousness.
