New words continue to appear in the course of individual language development. Therefore, adults who have mastered a large number of vocabulary still need to continue to learn new words.Studies have shown that reading is the main way for adults to acquire new words. However, learning new words in reading is a complex cognitive process, which involves the recognition of new words, semantic inference, and the connection and integration of information such as the form, sound, and meaning of the new word.Due to its complexity and the diversity of related factors, the conclusions drawn on a particular research object cannot be generalized to another object. Therefore,it is necessary to carry out a lot of research on objects with different specificities and further reveal the mechanism.Researchers have paid attention to the learning process of new words of highly proficient minority students and proposed that their learning of new words has certain characteristics, but the semantic inference and integration characteristics of new words need to be further explored. In addition,a considerable proportion of minority students with low proficiency levels may encounter more difficulties in the process of learning new words. Then,in which cognitive processes are their difficulties in learning new words, and what are the reasons behind the difficulties? Reading style,as a strategy for obtaining language information from reading, has any effect on the learning of new words of ethnic minority college students with different proficiency levels? Can the changes in reading style promote the learning of new words for individuals? This study uses eye tracking technology to repeatedly learn new words paradigm, select 60 minority college students with different proficiency levels in the national common language and script as the research objects, explore the cognitive process and characteristics of their new words learning, the mechanism behind the characteristics and Try to explore ways to improve the efficiency of learning new words from the perspective of reading style.Experiment 1 examined the learning process of new words under the condition of silent reading. The results of behavioral data show that the accuracy of reading comprehension and semantic category judgment of ethnic minority college students with high proficiency are higher than those of ethnic minority college students with low proficiency. The results of eye movement data show that there are differences between the eye movement patterns of high proficiency minority college students and low proficiency minority college students in the early and late stages of neologism learning. In the early stage, the low proficiency minority college students on the gaze time index only changed in the first to second learning stages, while the high proficiency minority college students changed in the first to second and third to fourth learning stages. In the re-watching ratio, there is no obvious change in the low proficiency minority college students, while the high proficiency minority college students have obvious changes from the first to the second, the second to the third learning stage. In the later stage, the total gaze time of low-proficient minority college students only changes during the first to second learning stages, while the high-proficient minority college students change continuously throughout the learning stage. There is no obvious change in the return-to-acceptance ratio of low-proficient ethnic minority college students, while high-proficient ethnic minority college students undergo significant changes in the first to second and second to third learning stages.Experiment 2 examined the learning process of new words under the condition of reading aloud. The results of behavioral data show that the accuracy of reading comprehension and semantic category judgment of ethnic minority college students with high proficiency are higher than those of ethnic minority college students with low proficiency. The results of eye movement data show that the eye movement patterns of ethnic minority college students with high proficiency and low proficiency ethnic college students are different in the early processing stage of new words learning, but there is no difference in the later stage. In the early stage, the low-proficient minority college students on the gaze time index changed significantly from the second to the third learning stage, while the high-proficient minority college students began to change from the first to the second learning stage. There was no change in the regaze ratio of the two groups of college students, but the low proficiency minority college students showed a higher regaze ratio. In the later stage, the low-proficient ethnic minority college students and the high-proficient ethnic minority college students showed similar eye movement trends in total fixation time and retrospective rate.Based on the above two experimental results, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)Compared with high proficiency minority college students, low proficiency minority college students have certain difficulties in learning new words, specifically in the early and late stages of new word learning in the table below under silent reading conditions, but under reading conditions It is manifested in the early stage of learning new words.(2)The reading style has an impact on the learning of new words and is regulated by the individual’s reading level.(3)Silent reading is more helpful for the learning of new words of ethnic minority college students with high proficiency, while reading aloud is more helpful for learning new words for ethnic minority college students with low proficiency.Reading aloud can promote the learning of new words for ethnic minority college students with low proficiency. The process of inference and integration of the meaning of new words. The results of this research have certain guiding significance for improving the learning of new words in the national common spoken and written language for ethnic minority college students:(1)It is recommended that ethnic minority students be exposed to and acquire the national common spoken and written language from an early age and encourage students to use more in their daily study and life.,So as to improve their language proficiency;(2)It is recommended in teaching Encourage students to acquire vocabulary through reading instead of memorizing mechanically;(3)It is recommended that high proficiency learners choose silent reading when they obtain new words from the context, while low proficiency learners should choose reading aloud.
