Study On The Intervention Of Class Group Counseling For Junior Middle School Students’ Well-being

Abstract/Summary:
Happiness is the goal of life and the pursuit of education.Thousands of years ago,people began to think about "what is happiness".With the rise of positive psychology in the 21 st century,the discussion of happiness has been on the rise and become a research hotspot.Subjective well-being theory regards the individual’s evaluation of life and emotions as the content of happiness,emphasizing the subjectivity of happiness,while psychological well-being theory believes that happiness requires external and objective evaluation criteria,such as the realization of mental health functions and meaning in life.Combined subjective well-being with psychological well-being,psychological researchers have put forward concepts,including true happiness and comprehensive well-being.They perceive that happiness should emphasize both subjectivity and objective standards,and happiness is a mental state or function under a specific cultural background.Now that the concepts and structure of happiness have been researched relatively thoroughly and the survey of the current situation of happiness as well as the analysis of influencing factors have yielded fruitful research results,the next step is to explore the issue of happiness promotion.Happiness intervention is also an urgent need of people at present.Foreign scholars have carried out researches on happiness intervention earlier,and proposed a variety of intervention strategies for different groups.In China,intervention research on well-being is still in the development stage.In the current studies,the main researches’ subjects are college students.There are few studies on the well-being intervention of junior high school students,and most of the intervention techniques in the researches are difficult to be applied in middle school due to the limited mental health education resources.This class group counseling,which is for all students in the class,is adopted in the study to intervene in the happiness of junior high school students.Class group counseling has presented local features in mental health education in China.In the study,the "Comprehensive Happiness Questionnaire" was distributed to 338 junior high school students,and three parallel classes were selected as the experimental group,the control group,and the blank group.During the intervention stage,8 groups of well-being classes were given to the experimental group;4 mental health education courses were given to the control group,and the goal of the course was not directly related to the sense of happiness;no psychological intervention was imposed on the blank group.The experimental intervention process lasted for nearly 2 months.A comparative analysis of the post-test data between the three groups showed that the level of positive affective factors,self-worth factors,and subjective well-being of the subjects in the experimental group was significantly improved.The main conclusions of the research were listed as follow:(1)The subjective well-being,psychological well-being and comprehensive well-being of junior high school students are in the upper middle level;(2)The class group counseling can significantly improve the positive emotion,self-worth and subjective well-being of junior high school students.Group counseling for the happiness of junior high school students is an innovative attempt under the background of the vigorous development of positive psychology and the practical needs of our country’s mental health education.However,due to the limitations of its own capabilities and objective conditions,there are many shortcomings in the content design and implementation process.Learned from this experience,the author will focus on the changes in students’ individual happiness during intervention,explore the integration of happiness education and other disciplines,and work hard to promote the Sinicization of happiness theory in future research.
