The Influence Of Family Socio-economic Status On The Pro-social Behaviors Of College Students

After more than 40 years of Economic reform and open up,China is advancing on the road to common prosperity.With the development of the economy,new problems have gradually emerged.In recent year,Chinese society has gradually begun to stratify,and the wealth of few people accumulates rapidly.Although the living standards of the people at the bottom of the society have improved,their wealth accumulation has stopped,which is a departure from the goal of common prosperity.In recent year,the contradictions of different classes that have gradually become prominent have bacame obstacles to the construction of the harmonious society.Therefore,we discussed the pro-social behaviors of different classes here.Pro-social tendency or pro-social behaviors is an important research direction in experimental economics,and the research of family Socioeconomic status mostly focuses on psychology and sociology.In the related research of psychology,some scholars belive that individuals with low SES levels have more prosocial behaviors? on the contrary,another part of scholars believe that individuals with high SES have more prosocial behaviors.So,what is the true relationship? This article takes pro-social behavior as the theme,and uses four classic behavioral game experiments through the method of laboratory behavior experiments to make a wide-ranging discussion on the pro-social behavior of college students.We recruited 1,288 college students in a university in Beijing.First,we need them to complete the dictator game,the ultimatum game,the trust game,and the public goods game.Then,obtain their family information through questionnaires.And through statistical description and regression analysis methods to explore the relationship between college students’ family SES and their pro-social tendencies.Our research shows that in the four games,individuals from low-SES families have more prosocial preferences.In response to this result,we conducted a simple mechanism exploration and put forward several policy recommendations.
