With the development of quality-oriented education, schools’ requirements for students’ scores have gradually weakened, and at this time, the traditional exam-oriented education system has not been completely reformed, which makes parents and schools fall into the "Prisoner’s Dilemma" of unbalanced game.At the present stage, for the development of primary and secondary school students,it is necessary to fully understand the relationship between their parents’ expectations and academic achievement,so as to be able to adapt the medicine to the case and solve the practical problems.Based on this, this paper takes academic engagement as a mediating variable to understand its important role in the relationship between parents’ expectations and academic achievement, and introduces academic self-concept to explore how learning self-concept adjusts the relationship between academic engagement and academic achievement in this mediating model,so as to affect students’ academic achievement.Based on the convenience sampling method, according to some county in three rural primary school is grade 4 to 6 students as investigation object, through the questionnaire method is used for data collection, data analysis by SPSS 24.0,based on the analysis of the main model variables related, for in his parents’ expectations and academic achievement in academic test in the mediation between the utility, then the academic self-concept test in the regulating role in the model. The results are as follows:(1)There are significant differences in parents’ expectation, academic engagement, academic achievement and academic self-concept of primary school students in terms of gender, singleton and grade.(2)Parental expectation, academic achievement, academic engagement, academic self-concept and scores of each variable dimension were significantly positively correlated.(3)Parental expectation has a significant positive predictive effect on academic engagement, and the direct predictive effect of parental expectation on academic achievement is still significant after academic engagement as a mediating variable is added into the model.Parental expectation has a significant predictive effect on academic achievement, and the mediating variable academic investment has a significant predictive effect on academic achievement.Academic engagement as a mediating variable partly mediates the relationship between parents’ expectation and academic achievement.(4)The interaction of academic engagement and academic self-concept,the mediating variable, has a significant predictive effect on academic achievement. When the level of academic engagement is low, academic self-concept has a significant moderating effect on academic achievement. When the level of academic engagement is high, the effect of academic self-concept on academic achievement is small. The moderating effect of low group academic self-concept on the model was significantly higher than that of middle group, and the moderating effect of low group academic self-concept on the model was significantly higher than that of high group, and the moderating effect of middle group academic self-concept on the model was significantly higher than that of high group. The research of this paper has some enlightening effect on educational practice.Parental expectations can predict the level of academic achievement to a certain extent, suggesting that the Pygmalion effect in families cannot be ignored. In family education, parents should re-examine their expectations for their children. From the school level, teachers should adjust their teaching methods to attract more attention from students in class,so as to improve the level of students’ academic investment. The home-school cooperative education mode should not be limited to parents assisting students to complete the prescribed learning tasks, but should pay more attention to students’ psychological conditions.Parents and schools should jointly participate in the construction of students’ mental health,so that students can study happily and grow up healthily in middle and upper grades of primary schools.
