The occupational population is the most productive and creative human resource in the current human society. The health level of this group on the one hand will have a direct impact on the growth of the national economy, and on the other hand, will have a direct impact on the harmony and stability of the society. In 2010 the World Health Organization(WHO)put forward the global action plan about workplace health promotion, called on governments and enterprises pay attention to the health problems of occupational population, and emphasize replacing bad behaviors with workplace sports participation. It is an important and effective means to improve the physical and mental health of occupational population through promoting sports behavior change, especially in the workplace. In order to solve the above-mentioned problem, this research first summarizes pre-intention and intention stage, preparation and action stage and maintenance stage based on the theory of behavior change.Followed by taking the Tennis Association of Dalian University of Technology as the research object, through a mixed method research methods, this research analyzes the sports behaviors and the characteristics of members in different stages, the effect after the members participate in sport activities, the practices and the support of the association. The results are as follows:First, there are two main characteristics of people in the pre-intention and the intention stage. One is that they have no intention to do physical exercise,e.g.,they do not understand their own problems and do not realize the benefits of sports. The other is they intend to change sports behavior but lack of motivation to participate in sports, such as they have recognized the problem, but have not made the decision to take action. For people who stay in this stage, workplace sports organizations are recommended to conduct health education, emphasize the benefits of regular exercise, and set good models to help them to think about the harm, weigh the pros and cons, and eventually realize the benefits. This will help them move into the next phase-preparation and maintenance phase.Second,in the preparation and action stage, the main characteristics of the people are, they begin to have the desire for behavior change, start to take the initiative to consult the sports organization, set reasonable goals to themselves, and begin to participate in physical exercises regularly.Sports organizations are recommended to guide and encourage them in this stage, specify reasonable intervention strategies such as set achievable goals and urge them at the same time. Then they will make a commitment to behavior change in appropriate ways and subsequently enter the maintenance stage by observing successful role models of behavior change to encourage them to start taking action and become more consistent with their behavior change.Third, the main characteristics for the maintenance stage is,the physical behavior has changed, and the regular physical activities have been carried out for more than 2 years, therefore a physical exercise habit has been formed.Workplace sports organizations implement different training modes for members in this stage and provide them with advices on how to solve problems and sufficient social support when they have problems and difficulties. At the same time, using reinforcement strategy, there is a corresponding reward mechanism to encourage them to eliminate the factors that induce unhealthy behavior, which increase the change of sports behavior towards the direction of continuous physical activity, and prevent sports behavior from returning to the pre-intention stage.According to the above findings, this study puts forward specific suggestions and recommendations on how to promote the participation of occupational groups in sports through the construction of workplace sports organizations:First, workplace sports organizations should implement different intervention methods for occupational population at different stages. For people who are in pre-intention and intention stage, sports information should be provided in the workplace environment, such as through health communication, information dissemination, health risk assessment or physical fitness testing. At the same time,self-awareness activities should be provided as well, such as face-to-face communication with successful cases focusing on making them understand the benefits of participating in regular exercises and the consequences of bad behaviors,so that they know the necessity of changes. For people in the preparation and action stages,it’s recommended to develop a plan, emphasize how to exercise, make a commitment to behavior change, and translate that commitment into action. For people in the maintenance stage, social support and strengthened management can be used to help them understand and overcome the difficulties, and at the same time, competition in goals can be formed and corresponding rewards can be given,so that they can maintain the current sports behavior and prevent returning to the pre-intention stage. And for different stages of the population,it’s recommended to develop the corresponding reward mechanism to promote their sports behavior change.Second, workplace sports organizations should further strengthen its management in different areas such as human resources, develop people with personal charm and influence to become leaders in the organization,to make full use of their exemplary leading roles, and drive the cooperation among members. It is also necessary to train core members, provide better services for members, strengthen the cohesion among members, and make sports organizations grow stronger. In addition,in the process of development,it is necessary to form its own culture and use culture throughout the development process of sports organizations,to attract more new members to participate in sports activities and form good physical exercise habits, effectively improve the sports participation in the workplace and promote the health of occupational population.Third, workplace sports organizations should enhance the construction of sports facilities to ensure the participation of members in sports activities.
