| Meaning is usually defined in terms of the connection between stimuli, information and concepts, that is,people can convey meaning through the process of "interpretation".There is no doubt that interpretation may be a crucial process through which people can extract meaning from daily experiences. Therefore, this study intends to empirically investigate the relationship between the meaning in life and interpretation bias of Chinese college students, and explore effective intervention methods to enhance the meaning in life of college students, and provide suggestions for the promotion of mental health.Research purposes:(1)Through a questionnaire survey,to explore the relationship between the presence of meaning in life(PML)and interpretation bias and mental health indicators of Chinese college students;(2)The experiment was conducted to explore the differences of inline/ offline interpretation bias and mental health among college students with high and low PML(3)The exploration of the effect of intervention on the meaning in life of college students through positive interpretation bias intervention procedures.Research methods and objects: Study 1 uses the Chinese revised version of the Meaning in Life Scale,The Interpretation Questionnaire,Flourishing Scale and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale to conduct an anonymous questionnaire survey of 1573 undergraduates from a university in Jiangxi Province;Study 2 uses the online experiment explored the differences in the offline interpretation bias and mental health level of high(53)and low(50)PML subjects.Study 3 is based on the WordSentence Association Paradigm(WSAP)to carry out an event-related potentials(ERP)study with high(31)and low(28)PML subjects with inline interpretation bias.Study 4recruited 924 college students randomly and assigned them to the positive interpretation bias intervention experimental group(353 people),the future goal-oriented intervention control group(335 people),and the baseline group(236 people). They were subjected to a four-week intervention study.A follow-up survey will be conducted after two weeks.Research results:(1)PML is significantly related to the interpretation bias and mental health indicators of college students.Among them, the positive interpretation bias of college students can predict PML positively, and the neutral interpretation bias and negative interpretation bias can predict PML negatively.(2)Compared with low PML college students, high PML college students have higher positive and neutral offline interpretation bias scores, and lower negative offline interpretation bias scores.(3)Participants in the high PML group induced more negative N1 and stronger P300 than those in the low PML group;at the level of negative interpretation bias, there was no significant difference in the P600 activation of college students with different PML types;while at the level of positive interpretation bias, participants with low PML had greater activation of P600 than those with high PML.(4)Positive interpretation bias intervention has a positive intervention effect on college students’ sense of meaning in life, interpretation bias, emotional balance and perceptual control.Research conclusion: This study explored the relationship between PML,interpretation bias and mental health indicators, explored the interpretation bias mechanism of the meaning in life and neuroscience basis, and tried a new intervention method to enhance the meaning in life. The results of this study put forward some suggestions for college students’ meaning in life and mental health construction. |
