Dudesta,president of Michigan University,pointed out that universities in the 21st century are in an era of leadership.As the chief executive of a university,the president of a university is the soul of a university and plays an important role in the development of a university.In the rapid development stage of popularization of higher education,and in the process of high-quality development promoted by the national "double first-class" strategy,it is very important for university presidents to play a leading role effectively.However,at present,there are many kinds of role deviations of university presidents in school administration activities in China: Treat universities as "entrepreneurs" principals who pursue business performance in business management;An "official" principal who pursues personal promotion;A "scholar" and "scientist" principal who emphasizes personal academic development;A "business-type" principal who emphasizes the authority of administrative bureaucracy.Therefore,the state puts forward the requirement that university presidents should become "socialist politicians and educators".Throughout the history of the development of higher education in China,the research of university presidents in my country is mostly based on the experience of Western countries,and there are insufficient endogenization and localization adaptability in the experience.This research is based on sorting out the role of university presidents required by the higher education system with Chinese characteristics.The sample selects the role formation process of the older generation of university presidents in the Republic for analysis.The research summarizes and combs the connotation of outstanding university presidents from multiple dimensions such as job experience requirements,educational beliefs,university education concepts,school governance capabilities,and wide-ranging influence,and analyzes the institutional characteristics of the roles of socialist politicians and educators in Chinese universities.Through historical documents,biographies,"outstanding figures" of university websites and other materials,a large number of detailed and accurate historical facts and historical materials are obtained.Through case analysis,the common law is found from many cases,the role characteristics of the presidents of the older generation of universities in the Republic are deduced,and the stipulation and influencing factors of the selection system are analyzed.The study sorts out the appointment status of university presidents from the perspectives of the higher education experience of the older generation of university presidents in the Republic,the work experience and social work experience of the pre-employment colleges and universities,the revolutionary experience and the influencing factors of the appointment,etc.Through the summary and analysis of the school-running philosophy,school-running behavior,school experience and influence of the older generation of university presidents in the Republic,it is found that the role of the older generation of university presidents in the Republic has the following characteristics: Adhere to the guidance of Marxist theoretical positions,viewpoints,and methods,and form a higher education school-running concept that meets the needs of socialist construction,Have a firm ideal and belief in developing higher education according to the needs of the country,They have excellent school management capabilities and accumulated rich experience in running schools,which have had a wide-ranging impact on the development of higher education in the Republic.They can be called socialist educators with Chinese characteristics.It is foreseeable that their role and school management experience will also enrich the world’s higher education experience.The older generation of university presidents in the Republic has accumulated experience and established a model,which has important guiding significance for the construction of the role of university presidents in the new era. |
