After entering adolescence, especially in the junior middle school stage, young people began to pay special attention to learning.Accordingly, learning burnout has become an important source of stress and a risk factor in this stage. It is of great practical significance to pay attention to the causes and mechanisms of learning burnout in order to prevent learning failure and promote the healthy development of students.Psychological control is the most common parenting tool used by Chinese parents, however, there is debate about whether the effects of parental control are similar across cultures, and research on gender differences in parenting is limited. In this study,1011 junior middle school students from 4 middle schools in Henan Province were selected by means of questionnaires, including parental psychological control questionnaire, academic self-efficacy questionnaire, learning burnout scale and perceived campus atmosphere scale, this study explores the relationship between father’s psychological control and mother’s psychological control and learning burnout of junior middle school students, and explores the possible mediating role of academic self-efficacy and the moderating role of perceived campus atmosphere.(1)The overall level of psychological control of the father and mother of junior middle school students is slightly lower than the theoretical average. The total score of maternal psychological control and the score of all dimensions were higher than that of paternal psychological control. The highest score was ineffective emotion, followed by inhibition of verbal expression, followed by personal abuse, over control and withdrawal of caresses.Junior high school students generally have learning burnout, which is in the middle level, the highest score is physical and mental exhaustion, followed by low sense of achievement, the lowest score is academic alienation; The overall level of academic self-efficacy of junior middle school students is slightly higher than the theoretical average. The overall level of junior high school students’ perception of campus atmosphere is relatively high. The score of students’ support is the highest, the teachers’ support is the second, and the autonomous opportunity score is the lowest.(2)Parental psychological control positively predicts junior high school students’ learning burnout.High level of learning burnout is associated with high level of parents’ psychological control.(3)Father’s psychological control mediated the learning burnout of junior middle school students through academic self-efficacy,and the mediating effect accounted for 50.17% of the total effect. The mediating effect of mother’s psychological control on junior middle school students’ learning burnout through academic self-efficacy was significant, and the mediating effect accounted for 53.27% of the total effect. The results show that high level of parental psychological control can weaken the junior high school students’ academic self-efficacy and further increase their learning burnout.(4)The indirect effect of parental psychological control on learning burnout through academic self-efficacy is mediated by perceived campus atmosphere. The perception of campus atmosphere regulates the first half path of the mediating effect. The results show that the effect of parental psychological control on academic self-efficacy will increase with the level of perceived campus atmosphere. This study reflects the non-adaptive function of parents’ psychological control in the context of Chinese culture, and shows that academic self-efficacy plays an important role in learning burnout of junior middle school students,it has cultural and practical significance..
