With the rapid development of China’s economy,a large number of labor force flows from rural areas and third-tier,fourth-tier cities to first-tier and second-tier cities,and large-scale population will inevitably lead to a significant increase in left-behind children in urban areas.Most of the attention is paid to the left-behind children in rural areas,but little attention is paid to the left-behind children in urban areas,this research focus on the Family cohesion and adaptability of left-behind in urban areas and its effects on mental health,aims to find out the regularity,so that we can better understand mental health problems of left-behind children in urban areas.In this paper,the "Family cohesion and adaptability scale" and the "Mental health test" scale were used to investigate more than 140 students in the second grade of No.1 Middle School of Loudi City,Hunan Province.Through the analysis of SPSS20.0 software,the results of the study are as follows:1.There is no statistical difference in family cohesion and adaptability between urban left-behind children and non-left-behind children.2.The family cohesion and adaptability of urban left-behind children whose mothers have different education levels are significantly different.The family cohesion and adaptability scores of urban left-behind children whose mothers are junior high school education are significantly lower than those whose mothers have high school or university education.3.Urban left-behind children with different education levels of caregivers have significant differences in family cohesion and adaptability.The family cohesion and adaptability of urban left-behind children with a college or above education level of caregivers are significantly better than that of caregivers who have junior or high school education.4.Urban children’s parents have different types of migrant workers,and they have significant differences in learning anxiety.Among them,urban children whose parents both work in other places have the most significant learning anxiety.5.Urban left-behind children with different caregivers have significant differences in the two dimensions of anxiety and physical symptoms.Urban left-behind children under the care of their mothers have significantly better anxiety levels than urban left-behind children under the care of grandparents,and urban left-behind children under the care of their fathers.the level of physical symptoms of children is significantly worse than that of left-behind children in urban areas under the care of their mothers.6.There are significant differences in the loneliness dimension of the caregivers of left-behind children in urban areas.The loneliness of the left-behind children whose caregiver education level is elementary school is significantly higher than that of the left-behind children whose caregiver education level is junior high school,university or above.7.The family cohesion and adaptability of urban left-behind children are related to their mental health.Regression analysis found that the family intimacy and adaptability of left-behind children can predict the level of mental health,which is mainly reflected in the dimensions of learning anxiety and impulsivity,in other words.The higher the family intimacy and adaptability,the warmer the family,the emotional closeness between members,and the better the mental health of left-behind children in urban areas.
