With the great change of information technology,the network game industry set off a new wave of development.With the rapid development of the industry and its global sweep,online game players gradually enter the public’s vision.At the same time,the information revolution has brought constant changes in communication modes,and the mainstream media,with its authority,still maintains a greater social influence among many media.Media coverage of online game players not only represents social consciousness’ s media perception of the player group,but also "symbolic reality" presented by the media will "cultivate" the public’s perception of online game players.From the perspective of news reports,this paper selects reports about online game players on People’s Daily Online from 2012 to 2020 as samples and uses quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to analyze the media image presentation of online game player groups on People’s Daily Online.At the same time,this paper combs the image changes of the media images of online game players in different stages of development,analyzes the causes of the image evolution,expounds the results caused by the interaction between various factors and media,and evaluates and reflects on the problems existing in the media reports of online game players and the influence brought about by the media.The study found that in the different course of the development of online games,the media has changed from a single image to a pluralistic image,the media image tends to be rich,and the age level of the reported players is constantly decreasing.In the process of constant interaction between politics,market,science and technology,culture and other multiple forces and media,the media image of online game players has also reached a relatively diversified balance in the game.However,the media in a variety of fields,in the face of online game players such as subculture groups,still show a certain loss and deficiency.Media reports,more prominent warning,education,and often ignore the network game player’s personality and human nature.The "aphasia","stare" and "label" of online game players will lead to the vague and improper media image presentation,and also cause the public to have cognitive bias towards online game players.Media image will not only lead to the stereotype of online game players by social mainstream consciousness,but also the "self" of players will be close to the "self" presented in media reports,forming a "self-fulfilling prophecy" of initiative.With the development of society and industry,online game players are getting more and more attention.As the strongest voice among the mainstream media,People’s Daily Online should assume its media responsibility,maintain media self-discipline,improve the reporting temperature,and help the public to have a deeper perception of online game players,a new generation of cultural groups in the information age.
