| At the 2021 Summer Olympics Games in Tokyo and the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing,China’s sports delegation ranked second and third in the medal table,and the efforts of the athletes who won the gold medal are indispensable.As representatives of China’s outstanding athletes,Olympic champions are the focus of media coverage.They fought tenaciously and tirelessly in the competition,winning honors for our country."People’s Daily" has portrayed the media image of Olympic champions through its reports,playing a positive role in displaying China’s good national image and sports strength,and improving social cohesion.This paper summarizes the characteristics of the media image of Olympic champions based on the reports of the People’s Daily on Olympic champions from July 2021 to December 2022,focusing on analyzing the framework and methods used by the People’s Daily to build the media image of Olympic champions,and exploring the social value of media in constructing the Olympic champion image from the perspective of media ritual.On the basis of the foregoing,the aim is to identify its shortcomings in building a character image and propose suggestions for building an Olympic champion image in the new stage of media integration.The study found that the People’s Daily reflects the unique spiritual attributes of patriotism,collectivism,hard work,and optimism inherent in Olympic champions through the use of the national image framework,the social example framework,and the life value framework,shaping the image of a national spokesperson who strives for glory for the country and the image of a role model who undertakes social responsibility and guides national fitness,as well as the image of a dream chaser who strives,perseveres,and constantly seeks breakthroughs.This has had a positive effect on strengthening political,national and ethnic awareness,building social consensus and the concept of building a community of human destiny.At the same time,it has also been found that there are some problems in the construction of the Olympic champion image in the People’s Daily,such as the imbalance between the reporting time and the reporting characters,the rigid reporting model,and the lack of competitive expression.The purpose of this paper is to propose suggestions on extending the reporting cycle,broadening the reporting horizon,deepening media integration,improving the reporting ability of new media,and improving the ability to guide public opinion,so as to provide reference for the People’s Daily and other mainstream media to build the Olympic champion image. |
