Emotional Expression In Fatherhood

With the change of society,the construction of male fatherhood has changed.But in real society,when people refer to the role of father,they always use such words as serious,introverted and silent.The emotional expression of fatherhood is an important way for both father and son to construct father image.Therefore,this study focuses on the emotional expression in fatherhood.This research belongs to qualitative research,taking emotion sociology as the theoretical analysis perspective,putting father’s emotion under the social relations and social structure,and analyzing the expression of father’s emotion through the narrative stories of three pairs of grandfather and father and the formation path of father’s identity construction in father-son interaction.This study mainly uses narrative research methods,from July 2020 to January 2021,has entered three groups of grandfather,father,son three generations of complete families,from life stories to start narrative collection.According to the scene texts collected in the research site,the researcher mainly transforms them into research texts through two ways,one is to organize the narrative stories of six narrative objects into narrative texts,and to analyze the stories of each narrative object from three angles of relationship,time and geographical location changes,and then to analyze the stories of each narrative object.Understand their life experience and their understanding of this life experience and the logic of their emotional expression of fatherhood.Secondly,the father-son interaction stories observed after entering each group of families to start their common life are transformed into father-son interaction cases.With the help of the definition of emotional sociology on the mechanism of emotional occurrence,this paper analyzes these father-son interaction cases from the four dimensions of paternal identity construction,emotional arousal conditions,emotional experience and emotional expression,so as to understand the characteristics of current paternal emotional expression and analyze its formation factors.Finally,the author compares the emotional expression of fatherhood between grandfathers and fathers,and analyzes this relationship from the perspective of emotional sociology.Through the analysis,this research has the following findings:(1)grandparent’s fatherhood identity construction revolves around responsibility and father subject,the expression of their positive fatherhood emotion has the characteristics of restraint,transfer and materialization,and the expression of their negative fatherhood emotion has the characteristics of directness and authority.(2)The construction of paternal paternal identity revolves around foster family and all-round,and the expression of positive paternal feelings presents the characteristics of contradiction,which is embodied in the alternation of restraint and gradual directness in the expression of positive paternal feelings.The expression of his negative feelings of fatherhood shows the characteristics of repression and negotiation.(3)The expression of two generations’ fatherhood shows the characteristics of transmission and adaptation.(4)Culture and social structure restrict the nature of father-son relationship and the construction of male fatherhood identity,and the change of father’s power and status in father-son relationship and the rise of children’s rights and status have an important impact on the formation of transmission and adaptation of fatherhood emotional expression.(5)From the perspective of children,15 children were interviewed to analyze the emotional expression of children’s ideal fatherhood.Through the analysis,it is found that the positive emotional expression of children’s ideal fatherhood is companionship,directness and reducing conditionality,while the negative emotional expression of children’s ideal fatherhood is restraint,understanding and tolerance.Combined with children’s expectation of emotional expression of fatherhood,this study puts forward the following suggestions for the construction of emotional expression of ideal fatherhood in China:(1)taking intergenerational equality as the core of fatherhood construction,men should reduce rights and increase responsibilities and obligations in fatherhood construction;(2)improve that construction of fatherhood by improving the enthusiasm and initiative of fatherhood and improve the ability of child-rearing;(3)It is necessary to pay attention to children’s emotional experience,emotional expression and corresponding needs in father-son interaction,and to examine the construction of fatherhood from the perspective of children;(4)Act as a buffer between the competitive parenting environment and the child.To sum up,this study belongs to qualitative research,mainly using narrative research methods,from the perspective of emotional sociology to analyze the emotional expression of fatherhood,the lack of big data reference of different family types in the analysis of the current situation of emotional expression of fatherhood,which limits the generalization of the research results.
