The meaning in life refers to people’s understanding and experience of the connotation of life,their understanding of life goals and missions,and their cognitive evaluation of the significance of life.In this study,the mixed research method is used to explore the constructing meaning in life during parenting process of deaf students,in order to provide reference for improving the mental health level of deaf students’ parents,promoting the healthy growth and development of deaf students and helping the families of deaf students by relevant professionals.In the quantitative research stage,the questionnaire method is used to understand the status quo of the meaning in life of deaf students’ parents.In this study,137 parents of deaf students in Sichuan Province were investigated by means of the C-MLQ.The results showed that the total score of meaning in life and its two dimensions of deaf students’ parents were on the upper-middle level,while the level of meaning in life was higher.In the qualitative research stage,the narrative research method is used to deeply explore the development and constructing meaning in life during parenting process of deaf students,so as to further explain the quantitative research results.In this study,three parents of deaf students with high level of meaning in life were selected as cases for indepth interviews,and the three-dimensional models of typical characteristics,constructing and maintaining meaning in life and influencing factors were used as the analysis framework.The results show that: First,the meaning in life of deaf students’ parents has four typical characteristics: Positive evaluation of the experience of raising deaf students;Have a strong sense of parental identity for deaf students;Clearly recognize the goals and mission of your life,and have clear practical actions to achieve the goals and complete the mission;Enthusiastic and positive towards life,full of hope for the future.Second,the development of the meaning in life of parents is closely related to their experiences in raising deaf students,and they often construct and maintain their own meaning in life through a series of positive cognitive emotional adjustment strategies.Third,the factors that influence the constructing meaning in life of deaf students’ parents include their sense of identity and social support,among which social support mainly includes family,homogeneous group,school and country,social welfare organizations and public opinion.Finally,according to the above research results,this study puts forward some suggestions to help the parents of deaf students with lower level of meaning in life to better construct meaning in life:(1)Improve their self-regulation ability through their own efforts;(2)Further strengthen and improve social support,and provide guarantee for the construction of life meaning of deaf parents.
