To a certain extent,the development level of Women’s Colleges reflects the level of national civilization and women’s progress.China’s Women’s Colleges were originally born for women’s equal access to higher education.With the universal implementation of coeducation in China’s higher education field,the social foundation of single gender Women’s Colleges has been greatly weakened.In addition,China’s Women’s Colleges have their own limitations,such as imprecise orientation,lack of distinctive characteristics,major and curriculum need to be improved.The society has strongly questioned the value and rationality of China’s Women’s Colleges.Therefore,China’s Women’s Colleges need to learn from the successful experience of other excellent Women’s Colleges to break through their own limitations and achieve better development.The "Five Sisters" Women’s Colleges in the United States have a long history of development,and they also had faced difficulties encountered by China’s Women’s Colleges in the process of theirs development.But they break through the encirclement by constantly adjusting themselves and using characteristic school-running.They are not only in the leading position of American Women’s Colleges,but also in the forefront of American excellent liberal art now.The research on Women’s Colleges at home and abroad mainly focuses on the very few excellent Women’s Colleges,or a little introduction to Women’s Colleges in the study of the history of women’s higher education.The inspiration for the development of Women’s Colleges in China is not comprehensive and targeted.Therefore,taking the five excellent Women’s Colleges of the United States as a whole,this paper summarizes their successful school-running experience by studying their school-running characteristics,and puts forward a more comprehensive and targeted enlightenment for the construction of Women’s Colleges in China.By using the methods of literature research and historical research,this paper combs the historical evolution and evaluates the characteristics of the school-running orientation,education,scientific research and campus culture of the "Five Sisters" Women’s Colleges in the United States.It also summarizes the school-running characteristics of the "Five Sisters" Women’s Colleges in the United States by using the comparative education method.Combing the successful experience of "FiveSisters" Women’s Colleges in the United States with the current situation of the development of Women’s Colleges in China,this paper puts forward the enlightenment beneficial to China and provides some reference suggestions for the construction and development of Women’s Colleges in China.In the introduction part,this paper not only expounds the background,purpose and significance of this study,but also focuses on the relevant research results at home and abroad related to the characteristics of women’s colleges.What’s more,this paper defines the core concepts and introduces the scientific research methods.In addition to the introduction,the main body of this paper consists of six partsIn the first part,on the basis of a large number of documents,the historical development of the "Five Sisters" Women’s College in the United States is combed with four periods,including the embryonic period from the early 19 th century to before the civil war,the development period after the civil war to the 1960 s,the challenge period from 1960 s to 1970 s and the opportunity period from 1980 s to now.The second part mainly discusses the orientation of the small and elite private liberal arts and science college of the "Five Sisters" Women’s College in the United States.In order to achieve the goal of training first-class female talents,the five private colleges of arts and science have formed a perfect school level and provided students with one-stop education.The third part expounds that the educational and teaching characteristics of the "Five Sisters" Women’s Colleges in the United States oriente to the cultivation of female leadership.Especially they take women’s studies as the core discipline,and set up a large number of general courses covering the arts and sciences,encouraging women to enter the traditional non women’s professional learning,further promoting gender equity in education.In the fourth part,from the academic support system and academic exchange and cooperation of the "Five Sisters" Women’s Colleges in the United States,it is demonstrated that their scientific research promote women’s academic success.The fifth part introduces the campus culture of "Five Sisters" women’s College from three aspects: material culture,spiritual culture and behavior culture.The sixth part uses the comparative research method to summarize the successful experience of the "Five Sisters" women’s College in the United States,combined with the current situation of the development of China’s women’s college,and puts forward the beneficial enlightenment for China such as making clear the orientation of running a school,strengthening the leadership education,strengthening the financial management to lay the economic foundation for students’ scientific research funding and building a good campus environment.
