| The frequent occurrence of postgraduate-supervisor conflicts has pushed the postgraduate-supervisor relationship to the hot spot of public opinion, which is not conducive to the improvement of the quality of postgraduate education.Based on the TKI model, this study analyzes the typical cases in which graduate students deal with postgraduate-supervisor conflict, gives play to the role of conflict management strategies in resolving conflicts, and puts forward suggestions on establishing harmonious relations between postgraduates and supervisors. This study used qualitative research methods to obtain research objects through targeted sampling, and conducted one-to-one in-depth interviews with 6 research subjects from July 5,2019 to August 20,2019.In this study, the whole process of postgraduate-supervisor conflict is regarded as the combination of multiple conflict events.Based on the TKI model, the conflict management strategies adopted by graduate students in postgraduate-supervisor conflict cases are analyzed and the reasons behind are explored. It is found that postgraduates tend to use avoidance strategy and accommodation strategy to solve conflicts, which is due to the cognitive bias of postgraduates and supervisors’ roles, power inequality and poor communication.Conflict can only be successfully resolved by proper use of conflict management strategies. In other words, competition strategies are applicable to situations where one’s own rights and interests are greatly damaged, the other party uses its own interests to gain benefits,or one’s own views are beneficial to the overall development. The avoidance strategy is suitable for situations where there is no rush to resolve the conflict and both parties are over-emotional and need to be calm.Cooperation strategy is suitable for situations where the two parties trust each other, are willing to communicate and have complementary interests. The strategy of compromise is suitable for situations where there is a rush to resolve conflict but cooperation is ineffective. The accommodation strategy applies to situations where the argument has a greater negative impact on the other person or where the other person’s point of view is more conducive to development. On the basis of the above analysis, this study combined with 18 existing cases of the research group, from the perspective of the avoidance and resolution of conflicts between postgraduate students and teachers, put forward suggestions for the construction of harmonious relationship between postgraduates and supervisors.Mentors should teach by example, respect and care for students;Graduate training units should intervene in mediation and improve the student guidance system in a timely manner. |
