| In recent years,with the development of information and communication technology,Interactive Whiteboard(IWB)technology has been widely used in English teaching.Meanwhile,according to the Compulsory English Education Curriculum Standard(Version2011),reading teaching has been playing a pivotal role in English teaching process.Nevertheless,the traditional mode of English reading teaching in China is the teacher-centered approach,which leads to students’passive learning,lack of cooperative learning with others,which hinders students thinking actively and critically.The primary purpose of this research is to explore the effects of Interactive Whiteboard technology on English reading teaching and teaching for a junior middle school.This researcher endeavours to address the following three questions:1)What is the influence on students’attitudes towards IWB-based reading class,compared with the traditional reading class?2)What effects does the interactive whiteboard have been used in prompting the interaction between the students and their peers,the students and the teacher,the students and IWB in English reading class?3)To what extent does IWB-based reading teaching mode improve students’English reading achievements?The experimental research was conducted in No.2 Junior Middle School in Suiling County,Heilongjiang Province.The teaching experiment lasted for 12 weeks,from 11thMarch to 6th June 2019.The research participants were 89 eighth-grade students from two parallel classes.Class One was set as the experimental class(EC)and Class Two was assigned as the control class(CC).The research instruments included questionnaires,experimental teaching,pre-test and post-test,and interviews.In the meantime,SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Sciences)is administered to compute and analyze the collected data from questionnaires and reading tests.The research results show that IWB makes students have very positive attitudes towards English reading learning and facilitates them prompt the level of interaction among students,the students and the teacher,the students and IWBs.Additionally,the students’reading achievements have been enhanced to a great extent by the effective use of the IWB.Hence,IWB-assisted instruction mode is more effective than the traditional one.Finally,pedagogical implications and some suggestions are discussed respectively,which are anticipated to be beneficial for students’English reading learning,teachers’teaching and research in the future. |
