A lot of reading is needed in learning any language. Reading is valuable to our study and it is an important means of acquiring information in our life. According to the requirement of New Curriculum Standard of the Ministry of Education, students need to read more than150,000 words before graduating from junior high school. In the traditional English reading classes, some teachers pay too much attention to the words and expressions and ignore readers’ active thinking, which cannot allow students’ reading interest and reading abilities to be improved. Therefore, we urgently need a more efficient mode of reading to cultivate student’s reading ability.The author chose two classes of Grade Three in Laizhou Yunfeng middle school as subjects, and made a comparative study through comparing the traditional bottom-up with interactive reading mode. The author applied traditional bottom-up reading teaching model in Class One, the control class, while interactive reading teaching mode is adopted in Class Two,the experimental class. And the author made the experiment for a semester to investigate the effectiveness of English reading teaching in junior middle school. After experiment, the author analyzed the statistics of two questionnaires before and after the experiment and the result showed that, after a semester of interactive reading model training, most students recognized this reading teaching reform, their reading interest has been improved, and students also hope that the teacher can continue to teach with this mode. The author made the Independent samples T test with the data collected in two reading tests before and after the experiment, the results(P=0.044<0.05) also shows test scores of two classes after experiment have significant difference, and the scores of the experimental class is significantly higher than the control class. The study found that interactive reading play a positive role in student’s reading level indeed, which can improve the students’ reading ability and reading interest.And it’s more effective than traditional reading mode, which is worth further generalizing.The interactive reading model combines the advantages of the bottom-up and the top-down reading model. It not only emphasizes the learning of language knowledge in the teaching process, but also attaches importance to the accumulation of cultural background and the training of reading skills. Therefore, it is efficient to guide English reading teaching in junior high school with the interactive reading model. The author hopes this thesis canprovide some reference to the teachers in English reading teaching.
