The Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard(2011)proposes that teachers should actively use modern teaching resources to enrich the content and form of teaching and realize the authenticity and communication of English learning.However,at present,the research on Computer-assisted Language Learning in China tends to be theoretical research,and the research on Computer-assisted Language Learning in rural primary schools is still rare.Therefore,this study is devoted to the investigation of the application status of multimedia in rural primary school English teaching,in order to provide reference suggestions for rural primary school English teachers.This study attempts to explore the role of CALL in English learning for rural primary school students and to solve practical problems in traditional teacher-centered English teaching.Three research questions are to be addressed:1.What is the impact on the English learning strategies of rural primary school students after implementing CALL?2.What effect does CALL have on English classroom teaching?3.What attitude do teachers and students have towards English teaching under CALL?This survey used questionnaires and interviews to conduct research on 160 sixth-grade students and 10 English teachers in a rural primary school.Research tools included questionnaires and interviews.All the collected data are analyzed by qualitative analysis methods,aiming to understand the current status of multimedia application in rural primary school English,discover problems and propose relevant feasibility suggestions.The survey results show that the application of CALL in rural primary school English teaching is generally good.Students can use English learning strategies more frequently.Teachers and students have a positive attitude towards multimedia teaching,and can use multimedia to teach and learn reasonably.The most important thing is that Computer-assisted Language Learning has played a positive role in improving the effectiveness of English classroom teaching.Finally,the author explores the enlightenment and suggestions from the research,hoping to inspire students’ learning,teachers’ teaching and future research.
