Relationship Between Career Adaptability And Resignation Intention Of Primary School Teachers

In the field of basic education in China,it is an important task to construct a group of teachers with stable and high level for the development of education at present.But in recent years,the demission of primary and secondary school teachers has attracted social attention for its high frequency.As a result,it is significant for the development of students and schools to reduce the incidence of demission and stabilize primary school teachers.Moreover,career adaptability and professional identity of teachers play an important role in their career development and stability.This research focused on resignation intention,career adaptability and professional identity of primary school teachers and also explored the interaction among them.We conducted three questionnaire surveys(resignation intention,career adaptability and professional identity)of 970 primary school teachers.Based on the data analysis,following results were obtained:(1)Primary school teachers’ resignation intention was in the lower middle level(M=1.81).(2)Primary school teachers’ career adaptability was in the upper middle level(M = 4.24),in which the career concern was the highest(M = 4.35).(3)Primary school teachers’ professional identity was in the upper middle level(M = 44.33),in which professional values was the highest level(M = 4.54).(4)For the resignation intention of primary school teachers,there were large differences in gender,administration,properties of school,age,marriage,children,professional title,teaching age and monthly salary(p<0.05,0.01).(5)For the career adaptability of primary school teachers,there were huge differences in age,administration,school area,professional title,honor and monthly salary(p<0.05,0.01,0.001).(6)For the professional identity of primary school teachers,there were significant differences in gender,administration,school area,professional title,teaching age,monthly salary(p<0.05,0.01,0.001).(7)Primary school teachers’ career adaptability had significant negative prediction on resignation intention(r=-0.16,P < 0.01);Their career identity had great negative prediction on resignation intention(r=-0.21,P <0.01);Their career adaptability had massive positive prediction on career identity(r= 0.72,P < 0.01).(8)Primary school teachers’ professional identity played an intermediary role between career adaptability and resignation intention.According to the results of this study,the following education suggestions are proposed in order to reduce the resignation intention of primary school teachers: For different groups,teachers should strengthen their professional identity;Teachers should constantly improve themselves and enhance their career adaptability;Schools should strengthen the construction of teaching staff to promote the professional development of teachers;this society should respect teachers’ teaching work and improve teachers’ social status.
