| The development of international students education in China is an important layout of China’s education opening up to the outside world.It is a necessary way to enhance the internationalization of higher education and accelerate the modernization of higher education.High-level international students,especially doctoral students,have made great contributions to solving social problems,and development of science and technology.More importantly,high-quality graduate education is a symbol of national higher education.Under the background of the "Belt and Road"initiative,the source and group characteristics of international doctoral students have a more obvious tendency,which will directly affect the level of international students education and higher education,and the quality of talent output.Therefore,while we continue to expand the enrollment scale,also need to improve the quality to ensure the efficiency and value of international students education.Based on the "Belt and Road" initiative,this research attempts to systematically and in-depth study the current status and problems of the quality of cultivating international doctoral students in China.Study first sorted out the basic situation of international graduate education in China,defining the quality of international graduate education and quality of cultivating international doctoral students in China,then reviewing related research.Decided to explore the admission,course study,scientific research training,and academic assessment of international doctoral students from the aspects of input,process,and output.Then,under the guidance of the "process-oriented" quality view,researcher designed the research framework,also formulated the interview outline.There are total of 43 qualitative research subjects from three"Double-First Class"universities,and analyze data with grounded theory.Based on the qualitative analysis,the following findings were found:Firstly,the enrollment quality is most significantly affected by the internal and external motivations of studying abroad,and the role of the responsible body for admission.Secondly,the curriculum outlook of international doctoral student and supervisor echo the "three levels" that affect the quality of curriculum.Thirdly,compared with domestic students,the scientific research training of international doctoral students is more dependent on the resources provided by institutions,and the research guidance and teamwork support provided by supervisor.Fourthly,the scholarship qualification assessment,the thesis publication requirements and mid-term assessments proposed by the institutions are the three most important academic assessments for international doctoral students during their studies.To sum up,paying too much attention to the interests of non-university enrollment responsible body;the quality of curriculum hinders international doctoral students from forming a positive outlook on curriculum;the‘official’guidance method hinders the intercultural communication between supervisor and students;universities lack of awareness of providing research support;room for improving the academic assessment methods and effects,these are the main issues of the quality of cultivating international doctoral students.Based on this,researcher has reconstructed the basic framework for the quality of cultivation.Then the problem has come down to two sides,failure to promote the internationalization of graduate education from the perspective of international doctoral students and insufficient fully convergent cultivation condition.Research recommendations:During cultivation,we should fully play to the main role of supervisor,promote the practicality and internationalization of international doctoral curriculum,improve the assessment method,and attach importance to the development of style of study.To ensure the quality of international doctoral cultivation by setting management goals for phased convergence and paying attention to the capability development and future planning of international doctoral students studying in China. |
