Newsgames are a kind of electronic game based on real events with certain news characteristics.It is an attempt for professional media to cope with the challenges of social media and reverse the competitive trend.It is also a new product of the integration of news convergence journalism.At present,the practical exploration and the theoretical research on this news form are in the ascendant.Based on the perspective of rhetoric,this paper takes the mature newsgames products at home and abroad as the research object.We uses rhetorical analysis,focus groups,semi-structured interviews and other methods to explore the following questions: the relationship between news games and rhetoric,the influence and reconstruction of newsgames on traditional rhetorical elements,the rhetorical skills of newsgames when constructing texts,the rhetorical effects of newsgames and the impact of the expansion of news forms in the digital context on the media industry.The paper is divided into seven parts.The first chapter introduces the source of research,defines important concepts,explains research problems and research methods,and sorts out related literature with key words “newsgames” and “rhetorical analysis”respectively.The second chapter mainly discusses the connotation and characteristics of newsgames.It is believed that this kind of news style is shaped by the three contexts,that is,market,technology and culture.And it is innovative in narrative techniques,construction methods and communication characteristics.The third chapter is an analysis of newsgames based on the perspective of rhetoric.According to the analysis,newsgames and rhetoric have their origins.Rhetoric theory is an important perspective to explore communication research.Rhetoric methods open up new horizons for exploring newsgames.The influence of newsgames on rhetorical elements includes: the rhetoric moves from the foreground to the background,the content form changes from single to plural,and the transfer relationship changes from listening to interaction.The fourth chapter is the rhetorical analysis of newsgames,which analyzes the rhetorical skills of newsgames with visual elements and literary elements as dimensions.Metonymy,visual thorns and knowledge framework are typical rhetorical techniques in thevisual elements of newsgames;gamified coffin standards,non-linear layouts,and socialized literary styles are common rhetoric in the literary of newsgames skill.The fifth chapter explores the rhetorical means and effects of newsgames.The rhetorical means of newsgames include: the purpose of persuasion,the path of logic,and the atmosphere of empathy.Qualitative analysis shows that the rhetorical effects of newsgames are very different.The aspects that are criticized by respondents mainly contain the single form,lack of information,poor production,and doubts about authenticity.The sixth chapter focuses on three themes,that is truth,freedom and border.From the perspective of rhetoric,it is examined and reflected that the controversies encountered in the practice of newsgames.The author believes that the procedural rhetoric is not necessarily the construction of inaccuracy.It is not necessary to overreact the preconception mosaic.The difference between adaptation and reconstruction lies in whether to adhere to the bottom line of the news reality.Therefore,newsgames should adhere to the bottom line of rhetoric and reconstruction,properly arrange visual rhetoric and rhetoric,and focus on the integration of rhetorical theory and visualization technology in the future.In the conclusion,the author combs and summarizes the research conclusions of this paper,states the limitations and shortcomings of the research,and expresses expectations for the future development of newsgames.
