Since joining the WTO in 2001,the development of China’s foreign trade has entered a period of rapid development. The volume of import and export trade has repeatedly broken new highs. At the same time, the problem of export trade growth has gradually emerged, especially in 2009 due to the financial crisis. The decline in China’s export trade has made us aware of the fragility of China’s export trade against external shocks. This is not only due to the global economic development situation, but also closely related to the way China’s export trade grows. The simultaneous development of a country’s export trade growth and export structure optimization is the correct path for foreign trade development. The introduction of the heterogeneous enterprise model makes the export binary margin become a research hotspot of extensive concern in the academic world. The research results on the binary marginal influencing factors of export are numerous, but there are few literatures on the marginal impact of labor cost on export. Therefore, this paper uses the manufacturing industry data of China and 20 trading partner countries as a research sample to study the impact of labor cost on the binary margin of export,in order to provide relevant suggestions for optimizing the development of export binary margin. The research process of this paper is mainly divided into the following six parts: The first part is based on the current development status of domestic and foreign manufacturing export trade and the weak background of China’s labor cost advantage, which illustrates the research background of studying the marginal influence of labor and cost on export. And the necessity of research;the second part sorts out the domestic and foreign research results on the connotation, measurement and influencing factors of labor cost and export binary margin, and summarizes the current literature on the impact of labor cost on export trade. The literature review;the third part is based on the theory of efficiency wages and the theory of induced technological innovation, from labor-production efficiency-export binary margin,labor-product quality-export binary margin and labor-technological innovation-The three paths of export binary margins analyze the influence path of labor cost on the binary margin of export;the fourth part draws on the HK index method, and selects the export data of 26 sub-sectors of China’s manufacturing industry from 2007 to 2016 to measure the export of China’s manufacturing industry.Binary marginal indicators, and summarized and analyzed for nearly a decade The overall situation of China’s manufacturing export expansion margin and export intensive margin;the fifth part of the efficiency wage theory is based on the construction of an empirical model, through the use of fixed-effect models to empirically analyze the labor cost impact of the manufacturing export binary margin; The research results are summarized: First, the manufacturing industry. The rise of labor costs has a significant positive effect on the marginal and intensive margins of China’s manufacturing exports and the promotion of the margin of export expansion is significantly higher than the promotion of the margin of intensification.Second, the manufacturing industry is divided into industries. The rise of labor costs has a significant positive effect on the margin of export expansion and the margin of intensification in the manufacturing subsectors.Labor costs have little difference in the marginal promotion of labor,capital-intensive industries and technology-intensive industries. The cost of the marginal role of labor intensive industries is higher than that of the intensive margins of technology-intensive industries. Finally, according to the research conclusions, the dependence on exports is reduced, the development of enterprises is supported, and the development of different types of manufacturing is compensated.Short-board and other aspects put forward policy recommendations.
